Well... since you haven't seen the movie, someone needs to tell you:

Don't. Go into. The light.

But really, it was probably just some sort of strange coincidence. Leave a light on at night and maybe you'll sleep better. You'll be out of there soon!

Some people also claim that poltergeist type activity is caused by a person in the home. Usually children and teens, or someone under a lot of stress.

Whatever happened, try to calm down and put it out of your mind. Maybe take a second look around the room and see if there's another explanation.
IMO, were something there and that active, you'd have noticed something before now. Small stuff usually happens before something that big.

Was there anything significant about the mirror, by the way? Was it old? Given to you, or on an outside wall?

Probably at work :(
Don't leave your stuff up there. Go back and get it. Just take someone with you. I hate to see you ran outta there like that.
Have you heard of smudging before? It helps to eliminate negative energy and evil spirits.

If you are interested follow this link--it will explain.

But, all in all I would have freaked out, too!!

Since I live in my apartment on the third floor with only my 7 month old daughter and the cats (who arent allowed in her room) Im pretty sure no one did it.

The mirror was a recent addition. A lady I work with gave it to me said it was her Grandmas. The house it had been in had been empty for several years after the Grandma went to a nursing home. It was really old and kinda messed up but I liked the way it looked. Ive had it for about a week.

We are fine. Im at work after about 2 hours of sleep. I finally passed out around 5 this morning when Joe woke up to let Granny out. Him and Ari slept like nothing happened at all. I swear I kept hearing things move around upstairs but Im hoping it was my imagination. I realized today that I have little pieces of glass in my feet from running over the mirror to get to Ari. So I might have to go to the doctor later see if they can get them out.

I think you misunderstood what I meant by a person causing it.
I didn't mean that a person physically walked into your apartment and tossed it off the wall. I was referring to how some believe that poltergeist activity is not ghost/haunting related at all, that it's a person who lives in the home (maybe you in this case) projecting their stress outward.

Whatever happened, you need to just relax. You already said you had planned to move, so that's not a concern. And nothing can hurt you unless you let it. Don't be controlled or held back by fear.
My guess is that you're not dealing with any ghost, don't let the season or any 'scary' stories told unnerve you.

Definately get that glass out, you might try soaking your foot in some warm water and epsom salt. It might help work the glass out, and if not it can help keep it getting infected before you can get a doctor to remove it.

Let me start by saying I DO believe in ghosts, have had my own experiences that lead me to believe there are unseen things that not everyone is privy to seeing/sensing.

That said, I really think what happened was a result of the earthquake in your region.
Arkansas is just across the river from Memphis, TN, so it's in the general area, within range to affect you by seismic waves too small to be felt by humans. And it may have been just a touch more 'violent' in your apartment because you were upstairs, where the swaying of the building would be greater than in Joe's. And if the glass in the bulbs was weak, or the mirror was not secured to the wall, it could have been enough.

I used to live in middle TN myself, and I know that the New Madrid fault (which runs just east of Memphis up into southern IN) is overdue for a major quake. Found that out when I called my insurance company to ask why I even HAD an earthquake deductible on my renters' policy. I was also there a few years ago when they had a moderate quake (like 4.5-5.0, I think) in southern IN/IL. My (ex-)husband and I were home at the time, and if we'd not been sitting quietly on the floor at the moment it happened, we never would have known about it. But we felt a slight bump, questioned each other to be sure we hadn't imagined it, and we turned on the TV to learn that there HAD been a quake about 150 miles away.

Either way, I'm sorry you had such a fright, and I'm so very glad Ari was not hurt!!!

My friends and I use to "ghost hunt", we even had a bunch of special equipment for detecting ghosts. I've always been facinated by the paranormal. It could be that a spirit in your house is angry becuase it knows your leaving? I bet you could find a paranormal investigation team that would be willing to come out for free and see if they could detect anything.

Where was the mirror in relation to the lightbulb? And was it just the one lightbulb? And was the bulb in a table lamp or in the ceiling? Was there a shade around it?

I'm starting to think maybe the mirror cracked on its own and a splinter broke the bulb... is that possible?

The mirror was one of those full legnth mirrors it was attached to her door and very firmly I might add. There were 6 of those holder thingies on each side 3 on the bottom and two on the top. Only the bottome ones were moved. One was pulled out completely, one was turn side ways so it wasnt in the right position to hold it and the other one was partially pulled out.

One of the bulbs was on a desk kinda near to the door about 4 ft? It was a small lamp with a lamp shade on it. Then the ceiling fan is has 3 lightbulbs on it and all three broke one was brand new. It went out the day before and I put in a new one. Then there was one that was in the corner on the far side of the room (away from everything else) and the last one was in the closet. None of them were on at the time they broke. Ari was taking a nap so the lights were off.

I dont think it could have been the earthquake. I live on the Northwestern side of Arkansas. Tennesse is way on the other side of the state.

Thankfully Ive calmed down a bit but Im still not going back up there to sleep! I went upstrais cleaned up the mess packed up the rest of my stuff and my ex came and picked most of the boxes up. All thats left is the big furniture.

I've been following this thread and was waiting for more details...

Having grown up in earthquake country (California), and lived through many quakes of varying magnitudes, I highly doubt it was a tiny quake that caused this. I've been in much bigger quakes, and have been on upper floors, known people on upper floors during quakes, and nothing like that has happened. I was in the 1989 one that shook up the baseball game... much larger than the one described in TN, and even though I wasn't on top of the epicenter, the only damage sustained as close as we were was a small mirror toppled over. It hadn't even been anchored, just leaning against the wall on a shelf.

That said, bulbs popping and a mirror breaking tells me someone may still be attached to the mirror. if the grandmother who used to own it has passed on, she may have felt slighted over something. Can't say... but I would recommend NOT bring it with you, even the frame, when you move. It's the most recent addition to your stuff and this hasn't happened before, so I would look at the mirror as the 'offending' item.

I like to find logical explanations for things, but this one defies anything posed so far. I've had plenty of mirrors survive earthquakes, same with lightbulbs. As one bulb was covered by a shade, I doubt a mirror shard hit it. that's far too specific to be coincidence.

Just my

Yup -- I'm with Amanda. I was trying to stick to logic, but the grandmother story made me nervous, and now I'm convinced something very strange happened in that room.

Once you're safely out of the place, you might see if there are some ghost-hunters in your area that would like to go check it out...

Please give your little one a hug for us all... I'm so sorry for the fright she had!
