They really did insist that I send the straws and the carton straps..Kahn stood on his hind feet and patted the drawer where the straws are and Joyeux and Pogue collectively dragged their piece of the strapping in and sat and yelled at me until I broke out the straws and strapping and put them in...the argument that they were not appropriate as a gift did not hold water with the little monsters...but they really do love them.Originally Posted by CarolPetunia
There were special favorite toys chosen by Heather's own crew, including bendy straws, carton strapping, lots of those wonderful foam balls ("You can never have too many," Heather wrote, and it's true -- all our kitties just go crazy for them!), a gorgeous feather boa with a bell, and a Jolly Moggy bird that squeaks and chirps when you jiggle it. It sounds exactly like the green leopard toy that was St. John's favorite when he was a baby, and you should have seen his eyes light up when he heard it! He's so happy to have a new squeaker!
Just as an FYI, because I forgot to tell you, both pins and the bag are from NYC Hard Rock.. it may be the 6th anniversary pin for HRC NY.. not entirely sure, and supposedly one of those pins you can only get from HRC if you are an All Access passholder.Originally Posted by CarolPetunia
And the piece de resistance: a nice lightweight drawstring backpack from the Hard Rock Cafe, with two gorgeous cloisonne Hard Rock pins inside -- one from the HRC's Sixth Anniversary and one of the same fabulous flaming guitar that's on the bag. I love 'em! And the bag will be perfect when I take my father to the Irish Festival in March -- so light and easy to wear, and with that supercool guitar!
All the kitties wore themselves out playing with their toys, and Clydie fell in love with the yellow plastic carton strapping, making it flop and bounce around. I wish I could have caught one of his backflips on camera -- he wrestled that stuff all over the living room!
Heather, you're a sweetheart! You put such a lot of thought and care into our package. Thank you so much for making our first Christmas present of the year such great fun!
Aww, just go ahead and open it. You want your cookie, don't you?Originally Posted by lookingglass

I'm waiting for her to tell me if she wants me to open my gifts or not....
How lovely that the kitties wanted to share! Ari loves that plastic strapping, too.Originally Posted by CatsAreBetter

Ohhhh I see how you are! You don't want your SS recipient to cross the dark side but you did!Originally Posted by CarolPetunia
So this morning, I finally finished recreating my SS package and hurried down to deliver it into the care of the US Postal Service. It went Priority Mail, which they say should put it on _____'s doorstep Christmas Eve. Just barely in time -- I hope!
Of course, I planned it this way, to spare my recipient the agony of temptation: if her package doesn't arrive until Christmas, then she can't possibly be lured over to the Dark Side! (That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!)
While I was at the post office, by the way, I suffered the latest in a lifelong series of ironic little slaps in the face from Fate.I'll post a thread about that in a bit.
But later, Fate took pity on me: when I got home, the package from my Secret Santa was on the porch! Oh boy! I slit the tape and set it out for the kitties to explore -- but St. John decided Clyde needed a bath first, so I had to wait...
Finally, Pearl decided to get to the bottom of things. "Here," said St. John, "let me hold the door for you!"
Just look what Heather (CatsAreBetter) did for us! In addition to two books of crossword puzzles (one of which is all about animals, and both of which were being perused by my mother when I shot this photo), Heather also sent us loads of wonderful kitty toys -- much more than are shown in the picture, because the kitties were already busy flinging them around the house.

There were two books of really good coupons from PetSmart, which we can certainly use... and a big, beautiful candle in a dreamy scent called Tahitian Spiced Vanilla -- very soothing, and the kitties were drawn to it, too. And chocolate! Oh my, the chocolate -- three kinds of creamy-smooth truffles, which I shared with my parents (who had almost as much fun with the package as the kitties and I did).
