I have a year old female cat. Lately she has started peeing on clothes when they are on the ground in my laundry room. The clothes are a few feet away from her litter box, could she be getting it confused? She seems very healthy and is eating just fine. I have another cat who is almost a year old but they have been together for a long time now and I don't have any new pets. Anyone else have this problem and have any suggestions? Thanks!

Hi! Welcome to TCS and hope I can suggest a few possibilities. The first thing you should exclude is a medical issue. Often cats with urinary or bladder infections, liver disorders, and other will urinate/defecate outside the litter box. Another thing could be that this is the age of personal development, it could be that suddenly sharing a litter box with another kitty is not appealing. There should be a litter box per kitty in the home. Keeping the litter box clean is also very important, some kitties are very finicky about this. It has also been my personal experience that some cats are simply attracted to cloth or carpeting that is close to there litter box, especially if it is not constant, something suddenly close to it. Almost as if they have to mark it.
