Ellen Degenerous- Animal Lover!

I watch the Ellen show almost every morning. She is an animal lover and is not afraid to say so and bring it up on her show.
I really wish some of the other celebrities would give to more animal charities as part of thier donations to society.

I saw her being interviewed at home, and I was so impressed by her happy cats! They have a great life.
It's always good when celebrities can bring attention to worthy causes, IMO.

The best thing about this is it is natural, she loves animals and they love her! She is so good with animals, like the owl that Jack Hannah brought, she was talking to it and he said he had never seen that happen before. It was "who-whoo"ing back!

I love Ellen Degeneres! She is a great person, but I guess since she's fighting for the animals she doesn't get much attention.

But she's so funny! I read a book of hers years ago My Point Is--And I Do Have One and I cried laughing so hard through the whole thing!!

I think that the crises that continent faces are finally being brought to the forefront of world awareness precisely because of the work that celebrities such as Bono and Angelina Jolie and so forth are doing. Before that, it was too much of a headache for our governments and media to bother with. That sounds very cynical but I think it's true. It's in the zeitgeist because it should be. The horrors and misery in Africa need to be in the news - every day, all the time. We need to be made aware.

I think it's part of a greater push in general to make sure that we, the everyday people, are more aware of the injustices that still occur in the majority of the world, to the majority of the world's people. If celebrities can use their status to bring attention to the plights of these people, then they should, under any circumstances.

Absolutely. I agree with you, despite what it may have seemed like.

I noticed your edit and just want to say that I knew what you were trying to say, it just came out extreme. I also agree that attention drawn to deprived, impoverish countries, to wildlife preservation and/or global preservation from celebrity status is admirable! I'm not sure of the reference to Africa, but understand the point.

I want to thank all of you for replying to this thread and I think that all of you have great hearts for wanting to help inpovrished countries and people around the world. However, it kinda makes my point that this started out as an Ellen helping animals thread (when alot of celebrities do not) and moved on to a social issues thread like most celerities are worried about. I really wish a A lister like Angelina or Brad would make a point to get the word out about spaying and neutering and the over-pet population. It would probably prevent alot of overcrowding in the humane societies if people would just be more aware of the problem.

I agree with you Coco. I was very gratified to learn recently that Hilary and Hayley Duff are very involved with exactly this - helping stray dogs. They do a LOT of work to help rescue and neuter and rehome strays - in fact, they were just at a large convention for it recently. Pamela Anderson also does a lot of work for animals (even though it's through PeTA) and so do several other celebrities. I think perhaps they do not get the same global attention for it, but certainly in the US I believe they are probably more recognised for it. I have long admired Ellen not only for her stand-up comedy and the message she regularly delivers, but also her stance on animal welfare.

I think Jay Leno is another celebrity who adores animals - you just have to watch the show more than one night in a row - he's always talking about his cat and he has wildlife `celebrities' on the show regularly - every couple of weeks, in fact. It's heartwarming. Steve Irwin was a regular, as everyone knows...
