12 years ago a gorgeous black cat came to my deck and meowed. I fed him ice cream and my niece laughed and said that he was now my cat. Well, he was. I got him fixed and gave him the freedom he wanted. He never wanted a litter box, just food and loving. No problem! I should say that I had 5 budgies (parakeets) and Brownie (well he looked like a fudge brownie) never went after them. They fly free and even when the dumbest bird decided to take a bath in the water side of his dish when he was eating on the other side, he just looked at me and kept on eating. I loved that cat. Last June, he did not come home for food for a month and he never misssed a meal b/4. Two other cat owners in my neighborhood lost their cats, too, so we figured a coyote had pups. Thought I wouldn't get another cat, but went to the shelter. Wanted another big black male cat. First 2 were black, male & feral but I wasn't put off until they both hissed really loud. 3rd 1 was a little fixed female. I talked to her and she meowed and purred. Butzie lives with us, now. More about her on other forums. Just wanted to tell everyone that has ever lost a beloved cat that I can really identify with them. Brownie is in cat heaven now. He never liked to use a litter box here, so I am sure he is not using 1 there.

I'm so sorry for your loss. He's in a better place now running free and enjoying warm sunny days.
