Just an update on my last post. I think I know the reason why my cat Tigger wasn't being himself yesterday. Since I am pregnant, my boyfriend has to change the litter box for me, but he's really bad about doing it, so the box was really dirty. I guess Tigger thought it was pretty dirty himself so he stopped using it (he didn't go anywhere else tho). Last night, my boyfriend finally cleaned the box and put in new litter. Tigger used it right afterwards and peed literally what looked like a cup (there was so much it took a little while to absorb in the litter). I guess he was holding it in so long that he felt like crap himself and he wasn't moving much cuz he was holding it in. And he was barely eating cuz holding in the pee was making him feel sick (or cuz he's strictly a canned food eater, he knew there was too much water in there already and didn't need anymore). After he went to the bathroom, he was playful again with his toy mouse. He acted happy and loveable to me but was mean to my boyfriend. Tigger wouldn't let him pet him (maybe because he associated my boyfriend with cleaning his box and since he didn't clean the box, he was mad at him lol). So I think things are a-okay. I just hope the fact that he peed like a cup (maybe I'm over exagerating cuz it seemed like a lot compared to his usual bathroom stops) isn't a sign of something serious. Can cats have the mentality to think they can hold their urine? I hope he doesn't do it a lot cuz i know that could lead to a UTI (and I know it's more serious for male cats). Anybody else have a cat that "held it in" or peed a lot at one sitting? This is really his first time doing it (he doesn't make frequent trips tho).

Yes! My dear departed Roland once got locked in the bedroom, by accident, all DAY. He held it.

And when the box is dirty, YEP they will hold it unto pain, if they are fastidious. How about two boxes ... ? Got room? It might help!

For a while Ziggy didn't use a litter tray because she always went outside so I took it away. She was fine with that, but we has really bad rain one day and she wouldn't go outside, yet I know she really wanted to. She would meow like crazy, but wouldn't go out because of the rain. When it finally stopped she darted outside and did her business....

When she got pregnant though, I had to keep her in and set her litter tray up again. She would go made wanting to go outside and only used it as a last resort after holding it for a day. And it was BIG

So yes, cats can hold it, but it is really uncomfortable for them.

He's doing good now. Back to his old self. This morning I woke up to him biting my arm and nudging my head with his head to wake me up and then he was sliding and pouncing all over the kitchen on the tile with his cat nip toy and I believe he got his appetite back cuz he ran after me to his dish when I put a new can of food in it.
