I have a cat problem that isn't going way. Little buddy took a hit or something and has about a 2 inch scar in the back of his neck. It seemed nothing at first but then the hair fell out and it turned ugly , I put some polysporin on him and wrapped it up for a few days but he keeps on taking it off, it is on the back of the neck and it is impossible to keep it bandged because that part of his neck is alwys moving around..

My question is should I shave the area so I can properly but a bandage on that he can not remove.

he keeps on removing the neck wrap , then scratches off the scab and it isn't healing.. There is no infection , he is good and probably doesn't know what he's doing.

the size is big but it is not deep at all , only looks to be the first layer or two of skin..

please...

Do you have an E-collar? You might try one of those (or make your own). I'd hesitate to shave the area--the vets use electric razors, so there is less chance of accidentally nicking the cat--and as the hair grows back it can sometimes be itchier. I've also heard of people using the top part of an old sock to keep the cat from getting at the area.

I don't have a e-collar , don't know what that is..

I meant shave him with my braun or conair , I wouldn't put a razor to him..

The spot is on the back of the neck , below the ear, it is so hard to work with , even when I put the wrapping around a few times it looks perfect but he only has to raise his neck for it to split away , many times he is walking around with the scab exposed because the wrapping falls below the neck 5 minutes after I put it on.. He is also a little sad once the bandage is on.

Any type of collar looks to be painful because the collar would actually touch the scab.

I just want to make sure that the hair will grow back and there is no risk in cutting the hair so a bandage could stick . I got the idea by looking at vet pictures with scars and the area was shaved all around..
