Does anyone watch Ghost Hunters? It's on SciFi, and I am HOOKED on that show. They always show reruns, but the season premiere was last night. I believe in the paranormal, but I believe only certain people are able to experience it. I don't think I am one of those people, but I am ok with that because I am terrified of it. I like Ghost Hunters because you can tell these guys (T.A.P.S.) are the real thing. They don't find something everywhere they go, so you know they are doing real research and showing real findings. It gets pretty freaky sometimes though! Last night they were at this house that was built on the road where the murder of Sharon Tate and others by the Manson Family took place, and it was incredible. They were communicating with J.C (one of the victims, I think that was him) by asking him yes or no questions and the spirit would manipulate an electromagnetic device to answer. They must have asked 20 questions, so you know it was real. They also asked if the spirit would lower the temperature in the room to 60 degrees, and in about 2 minutes he did it. I was actually not disturbed by that part because it was like they were having a conversation with the spirit.

They usually get some pretty freaky EVP (electronic voice projector I think) from their investigations. This device records things that we can't always hear with our ears. That's usually the most disturbing part for me, is hearing any of those that they find. They also use a heat sensor. This is a really good show and I think everyone who has an interest in the paranormal should watch it!!!

No way could I be a ghost hunter...

My maternal grandmother often saw and felt spirits and Mom has witnessed some in her lifetime. On one evening, Mom and a friend were walking home and Mom heard a voice yell out, "Jump!". Mom grabbed her friend and pulled her from the road across the ditch to the bank. Just a second later a car came screaming out the night towards where they had been standing. Mom swears it was her mother protecting her.

Mom tells one story that her mother saw her father's dog one afternoon. But her father lived about 150 miles away! Turns out, that at that time, her father had died.

Mom once had the opportunity to buy a house and land but her Dad talked her out of it. (Land is now worth Millions.
) The house dates from the early 1800s and one bedroom is haunted. (House is now part of a seminary office so no one sleeps there.)

I've heard that sometimes you can see a ghost of someone before they have died or right as they are dying. Maybe that's why her father's dog showed up. It can be a way of letting you know.

I've heard that you should never mess with a Oiuja board either... that it can open a portal that you don't want to go there.

I forgot about some stories that my SO has told me. He has a couple friends that are into voodoo, and they were sitting in their basement doing a seance, and all of a sudden a skeleton with purple rags came down the stairs and went right by them down the hallway. Now, the skeleton sounds a bit weird and almost cliche, because I don't believe spirits manifest in that way, but perhaps it was a demon of some sort.

My SO's best friend says that she sees spirits on the side of the road all of the time. She'll be driving home at night and a street light will flicker and there'll be a person there that she knows isn't really there. She said it happens all the time.

maybe not a ghost story, but it sure made hairs stand up. Last night we were watching TAPS (ghost hunter show, they go to places that are thought to be haunted and video tape, sound tape and other things.) The show last night was on the story of the house that is next door to the charles manson/sharon tate murders. After they do the investigation, they take all of the recordings and play them back. They caught a voice of a lady, that sounded like it was crying or in distress trying to say something, but you couldn't make out what it was saying. My cat Abby, who is the most chilled out layed back cat ever, was on the couch asleep. When they played that recording of a lady crying while talking, Abby woke up, got down on the floor, crouched down and started darting her head back and forth like he was tyring to see where that was comming from. Weird. He did that for a minute, then relaxed & layed down on the floor. A few minutes later they played it again. And again, Abby sprung up, crouched down on the floor and had her head down like she was scared. Now, Abby doesn't even react to anything from the tv, not even other cats meowing, nothing. This gave me cold chills. Happy Halloween!!

Yikes Hollow! I always watch my cats during that show, but usually the candles and warmth in the room has them passed out asleep. That episode was my favorite so far. I've only been watching the show for a couple months. I am so freaked out afterwards but I can't stop watching! I am extremely fascinated by the paranormal. I get scared really easily though and although I know they're nothing to be afraid of I can't help it.

Glad to see another GH fan on here! I am so glad that a new season has started too... I can't wait for next week!

I LOVE that show! I only caught the one when they were in Washington State last night 9-10pm. I thought it was the premier, but i could be wrong.

So love how they debunk the stuff. I use to watch Most Haunted on the travel channel, but they screamed so much you couldn't hear anything.

Well you think about it, MH is visting touristy locations and is on the travel channel. So they will emphasize that "everything" is haunted. I liked watching Derek getting "possessed" on there. I always cracked up about that.

I remember watching their MH: Live when they were on the London Bridge. The host of the show was cracking me up. He had this tone when reading back what posters were saying about the show "You people are all morans"

You just have to be at the right place at the right time... or wrong place at the wrong time, depending on how you view it. It's possible you've already heard or seen something but dismissed it.
The device you mentioned it called a K-II meter, btw. And I've read that the sort of reaction that they were getting in that episode can be easily faked simply by turning the device off and on again really quickly. Whether the TAPS guys were doing that or not, who knows, but the other guy (and the show he's usually on - Dead Famous) is a bit suspicious.

I unfortunately, had the bad luck of wrong place at the wrong time... around 10 years worth of wrong time.
The house I lived in from 9 to 20 years old was haunted. Mostly it was just typical stuff. It did have a shadow figure though, creepy fellow that I wasn't particularly fond of.

The house itself was an old two story, the upstairs was one large room and the down stairs had one bedroom with a half bath. Because I was too uncomfortable with the upstairs, I begged my parents to let me switch rooms with them. ...Not that it helped any.

Around the time I was 13 or 14 I had two hamsters, and because the bathroom had a huge built in cabinet in it, I used it to hold their cages. Well one night I got up because one of them was chewing on their food dish, making too much noise for me to sleep through. I refilled their bowls and turned back into the bedroom to go back to bed. The bathroom light was still on luckily (bedroom light was off)... because at that moment I heard in a deep male voice say from the bedroom "What are you going to do now?".
I stood there in shock.
When that wore off, a few seconds later, I flipped the bedroom light back on and left it that way till morning. I did not go back to sleep.

As for shadow men/figures. They're not necessarily "evil" just because they're dark. Often times, I believe, we just see them as a dark shadowy figure because some of us can't see them as clearly as other people can. Also, it could just be the easiest way for them to form/show up.

- By the way, has anyone noticed that Discovery Channel's A Haunting is now on early in the afternoon? 2pm ct here. It used to be on in the evening at a reasonable time. Now they'd rather show ridiculous shows like Cash Cab.

All the ghost hunting shows, pyschic shows, etc. are aired all the time in October.

Just wanted to say me too, it is the best TV time of the year. I rarely watch TV, but I love to around Oct. I TIVO will get some real use...I missed one program last year, hoping it will air again this year.

My experiences with ghosts involve only hearing their voices, not actually seeing them.

When I was a child, my late grandparents lived in a small town. One night I was walking past a store downtown, and I heard the voices of children playing inside this store, but there was no one around. I went back the next day and looked in the store windows and found nothing but bare walls and a building that obviously not been entered for a long time.

My brother also had a possible ghost experience while we were visiting my grandparents. Late one night he was sleeping when he was woken up by a voice just outside his window that keep repeating "help me...help me!!!" over and over. My brother looked outside and saw no one but still kept hearing this voice. He was so scared that he pulled the covers over his head and hid.

I also have some adult experiences with ghost voices.

We used to live in a very old house. I used to think I heard voices late at night but decided it was just my imagine. One night I heard a voice very close to my ear. It said "no Lorie, you haven't been just imagining things, I really am here and I'll show you." And then I felt something blow it's breath into my ear! I was really scared!

Another time I woke up one morning to the sound of a voice whispering in the corner of my bedroom. I was really trying to think I was just imagining that voice, but then I noticed that Snowball, who was sleeping on the bed with me had heard the voice too...

Now we live in a house that is only about 10 years old. The other day the closed door to the laundry room suddenly started to vibrate and rattle like something was inside and trying to get out. I wanted to think nothing was happening but Snowball had noticed the door rattling too and crouching down in front of it. So I opened the door and of course I found a completely empty room. I'm not sure what that was, but it hasn't happened since then.

Here is my freaky story. This happened when my husband and I had been dating about 6 months. He had bought some land out in the country and there is an old abandoned church down the road. Well, I am facsinated (sp) by old graveyard and the church had one, so we went to see it one night. It was right at dusk and we got out of the truck walked around the church, which was empty, and entered the graveyard. Well, the church had an old PA system that looked like a megaphone tied to a pole, and while we were in the graveyard some freaky music started playing. It was nothing we had ever heard before it sounded so old. Needless to say we high tailed it to the truck and haven't been back since!!!

i see this all year round. I am a paranormal investigator. My group goes in when called by home owners or what have you, and investigate whats thought to be a " haunted" place. not everyplace IS haunted. There are diff levels of " hauntings" as well.

There is ACTIVE hauntings, in which the spirit is able to comminucate with us.

Then there is "residual" in where the haunt is like a play, and its jsut something that happened a LONG time ago, happening over and over again.

www.wnyparanormal.org is the group i belong to, and that is our website address, feel free to chec it out. A picture i took of our last investigation is on the front page

I think I remember you linking to this before. What's some of the craziest things you've seen while investigating? And does your group just look for evidence or do you actually try to do follow up with the residents who want whatever is there gone?
How does your group avoid stragglers/hanger ons?
One of the reason I'd never have the guts to go into a haunted place on purpose (again), something would follow me home... or make me sorry I was there.
Does your group notice any increase before/around Beltane and Samhain?

And does getting pushed down the stairs count as an Active haunting? lol

(sorry for the slight hijack - but maybe we can get a few good stories?
)

Hmmm...well, last semester, one of my roommates was alone in the apartment and she was sitting in the living room doing her homework. Suddenly, she heard the bathroom sink faucet turn on full blast. She checked the whole apartment and no one was there. Nothing like that had ever happened before.

I have another one, and this happened about five years ago. There's a very, very old jail in the city, called the Nicholas Street Jail. It is probably the most haunted building in the city that I know of, and I think it's reputation isn't going to be disputed. There are DOZENS of ghosts in there, some are historical figures, like the killer of D'Arcy MacGee, who was a senator back in the earlier part of the 20th century. But I only saw one ghost. And he was quite real.

So anyway, my mum and I were going to a play there, since the building isn't a jail any more, but a theatre and a youth hostel. Well, the moment I stepped inside of the building, I felt I was being watched by hundreds of people, like I was parading naked and they were all looking at me. I got tingles up and down my spine, and it became quite chilly and there was this air of dispair and of longing, I wanted to cry. Later, I read that this part of the jail housed the women and children of the inmates. They lived there because they had no homes. And many of them died there, no doubt.

Then gradually, as we made our way up to the third floor where the theatre was, the feeling dissipated, until I felt a sense of something following us.

We got upstairs to the theatre and we were waiting for our tickets. This watching feeling got so intense that I was compelled to look over to the left of me. Now there is a little stairway leading into a hallway, and more stairs leading to another part of the building. I was looking at the hallway, where there were a row of benches along the wall.

Sitting in one of these benches was the faint figure of an elderly man with a cane, my gentlemanly ghost. I really couldn't see him, but I knew that he was there. He wore a brown tweed vest, brown pants, and nicely polished black shoes. He also had a bowler hat and small pince nez glasses. I could also say that he had one of those handlebar moustaches. I watched him for a minute, and he suddenly looked up at me. Directly at me. He looked at me for a few seconds, nodded his head slowly, took off his hat, picked up his cane and grinned. Then he walked down the hallway and disappeared.

Whenever I happen to walk by the theatre, I always say hello to him. I think he just wanted to be remembered and I hope one day he'll find some sort of contentment.
