We have inherited two fixed male cats with the purchase of a home. They are great, friendly and happy cats. Both are completely outdoor cats with the exception of coming in for a little while for a quick snack. The only problem that we have had so far is keeping them in the yard and away from the ally and streets near by. They are both neutered but still run off! What would you suggest as far as products such as fences, invisible fences, sprays… or just any advice to keep our cats in the yard?

Thank you so much!

Where whiskers abound.
Nice fence, a little pricy. If you cannot afford the fence, you could always install a bird bath/feeder. Some on this board would not suggest that, but, what is better--you finding your cat dead some morning or your cats playing in your yard?

Yep, it certainly is pricey. Here's another option for the OP if they have an existing fence. http://www.catfence.com/index.htm

You can build or buy a cat enclosure - some are like tents. Or try to make them indoor cats for their safety. While they may have been outside for awhile, its not totally impossible to turn them into inside cats only

I've fenced in my 1/4 acre lawn with the Affordable Cat Fence www.catfence.com . It works perfectly and my cats love being outside and use a pet flap to come and go at will. It's also nice because it keeps OTHER cats, possums, raccoons etc OUT of the yard.

The peace of mind I now have is incredible. I have a semi-feral who would cross the street on a daily basis to go into the woods and I was a nervous wreck until I got this installed. He did attempt escape, for about 10 minutes, and then gave up and accepted the limits of the fence.

I agree with the fenced yard. I live on 4 acres in the country on a pretty dead road. I have 8 farm cats, but nobody wanders anywhere so they remain safe.

Thank you all very much for all of your suggestions. They are very helpful! I still am up for any other suggestion as well. The yard they are in is not fenced in so I am unsure about the fence that is fixed to a fence already there. What do you think about taking the cats and moving them from where they are to our home? Same town just on the other side. Do you think it is good to move cats from place to place?, and if so what is the best way to ensure they will stick around?

Thank you!
