I took seven more cats Sunday to be spayed and neutered and then drop off at two different rescues (they had an adopt a thon last weekend which opened up more room) Well, I get a phone call two hours after I dropped them off that two are bleeding from the nose under anasthesia, come to find out they have ruptured eardrums. They finished the spay and neuter and cleaned out their ears and sent them home with me. I took them immediately up to the rescues and from there they went to the vet. Now I have a kitten here that has the same problem,,according to my vet today and he is on antibiotics.
So if I understand the vet right,, this started with ear mites that were never treated which led to infection, then the ruptured eardrums??

Once again please excuse my ignorance,, I usually only do reptiles, lol.

Yes, a bad untreated case of earmites can definitely cause ruptured eardrums. Poor babies....

well it looks like I am going to have to try and get all the ear mites under control too with the ones tha are left out there. I just got all the fleas and ticks off a bunch, now to deal with the mites...... This is so frustrating,, I know these cats didi not start out feral and stray, they were kicked out of peoples homes and left to fend for themselves and breed and breed.

My foster kitten KoKo came back with a head tilt caused by an untreated infection. His left ear drum ruptured the first night home. Once their ear drum are ruptured they will have a permanent head tilt.
