Yesterday I posted about Echo and how she's got an infection on her bum. I couldn't get her first dose of Clavamox down her this morning...so I thought I could just give her both doses tonight. Well...that was at 6:30 and now it's 8:30 & she's vomited three times. I'm assuming it is because I gave her both doses! I feel horrible...I shouldn't have given her both! I'm kicking myself in the butt now. What do I do now? She hasn't throw up in about 5 minutes or so...but I just scared to death. Is there anything I need to do for this? I'm clueless when it comes to this stuff...I've never had a sick kitty before...at least not this sick. Please help...I'm debating on if I should call my Vet at home. What do you think?
Thank you all...I'm sorry I'm such a pain. I'm just worried about my baby...

Hi Shell,

The antibiotic will sometimes cause digestive upset and vomiting in a regular dose, a double dose will intensify that. I would call your vet and tell him what you did and ask him. If unavailable I would call Poison Control 888-426-4435 or 900-680-000. They may charge a small fee and you will need the bottle with you when you call. The calls used to be free, but they get to many of them. Your most dangerous sign would be dehydration. To check gently pinch the scruff of the neck and hold for 30 seconds, release, it should return flat in just one second, any longer the cat is dehydrated. You can also take your finger and press the gum and release, the gum should turn white when pressed and pink up immediately.

Good luck

I checked her gums and I pinched the scruff of her neck & everything seems normal. She hasn't vomited in almost an hour...so I'm thinking that she got it all out of her system. She seems to be ok considering it hurts her to walk around...at least no more throwing up right now. If she throws up again, I'm going to call Poison Control. What do I do if she throws up again tomorrow morning when I give her the normal dosage? I've never gave antibotics to Echo before...so I don't know if she's gonna be allergic to it or not. What are the signs of them being allergic to their med's? I thought I better ask just in case...
Thanks Hissy!

I wouldn't give her the medicine tomorrow. I would call your vet and ask for another antibiotic to use with her- there are several choices out there. I would also tell your vet you gave her a double dose because you missed one, so he knows.

Sorry Guys for not replying sooner...It's been on of those days!!
I got home at 6 and tried to coax Echo out from under the bed. I took one look at her little rump and I immediately called my vet (thank God she was still at the office!). It is even more red than before and she's very aggravated with me trying to clean it & powder it. My Vet told me to stay on the same antibotic (she vomited because I was STUPID and gave her both doses. What was I thinking?) and to stop using the Gold Bond powder. She thinks that the Gold Bond is irritating more than helping...and by looking at the ingredients, there is no wonder why it was hurting her! It's got menthol and salicylic acid...and both of those can burn! So, I had to run back out to Wal-Mart to get some cornstarch, hydrocortisone cream, vaseline, latex gloves, fragrance free/alcohol free baby wipes and pepto bismol. She thinks that she's got some diarreah (and that making the problem even worse), so the Pepto should help with that. I have to massage the hydrocortisone cream into the red area of her bum and then put a little bit of vaseline on the opening...and finally powder her down with cornstarch. Thank God my Mom helped me...I don't think I could do all of this by myself! Needless to say by the time we got done...I had cornstarch in my hair and down my legs, Pepto splattered on my shirt & in Echo's fur, a mixture of vaseline & hydrocortisone cream rubbed into my comforter on my bed...What a mess! LOL! Both Mom and I got a good chuckle out of it when I we both collapsed on the bed with exhaustion...I bet it was kind of humorous to watch us doing this. We had no idea what we were doing...just playing it by ear. Hopefully next time will go a bit smoother...cross your fingers!
As for Echo, she is getting better. She isn't mewing out of pain as much and is walking around a little bit more. My Vet said that this should all be over in a week or so...Boy, it's gonna be a long week!
Thank you everyone for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers...I was truly shocked by everyone concerns. You all are the sweetest!!
Love ya guys!

Ok just to let you guys know, I was concerned reading about Shell giving her kitty Pepto, so I found a way to get her phone number and called her. Just so you know, Pepto is not a good thing to give cats. If you want to stop diarrhea, then just use Kaoepaectate, but if you give your cat say the equivalent of 2 tablespoons of pepto, you just gave your cat a 5 grain tablet of aspirin. Not a good thing.

At any rate, the amount that Echo got and with how much she weighs, Echo should not have problems with it. Shell ended up wearing most of it.
