I perused the forums and I saw the following ones being mentinoed:

dr bronners (sp?)
Biogroom (various types I guess)
Earthbath

I myself use Earthbath now, but I wanted to know what most people here recommend as the best cat shampoo for any cat.

Thx!

I don't think there is just one shampoo for all cats. Some are special color shampoos, others would be better with a longhair or a shorthair. You have to kinda experiment to see which works best for your cat

I think for non show homes you can get away easy with All Systems #1 Crisp Coat (no color enhancers) and any one of their basic conditioners for any type of cat (LH, SLH and SH). BUT with all All Systems products, please DO Dilute both Shampoo and Conditioner. It's quite cost effective that way

Bark to Basics also have a good and simple range that works well too!

Frankly in a show home like mine ... The Abys have 2 different shampoos and 2 different conditioners, the Norwegians and Main Coon and Persian have 4 different shampoos and 3 different conditioners. The non show cats have one of each
But they too get a full blown show groom once or twice a year
Show bathing the Abys take about 1/2 hour and show bathing the Long hairs take at least 45 minutes - this before drying!

Thanks for your responses. I was also thinking about the color of the cat, since I noticed many of you buy a shampoo for its particular ability to enhance a color.

But if I just want a general all around shampoo that can be used on any color cat and is safe (is dawn really safe?) what would it be? I'm pretty much looking for the Pantene Pro V of cat shampoos, something that is safe, effective, and most importantly, the most popular of all around cat shampoos.

This is very true. Just like human's, shampoos for cats have different effects on different kinds of coats. I really like Earth Bath for an all around shampoo but you may have to try a few different brands before you find one that works well for your cat's needs.
