Okay as you all know I just started at a different nursing home but the other day I was called about a factory job making cookies. And in this job I will making base pay, not counting shift difference, $10.50 an hour where as now I am making $8.71. The benefits at this factory are really great and for a single person the medical insurrance is paid. The problem is I will be working alot of hours as most factories do. But I will have major holidays off. Where I am at now they upset me the other day I hurt my hand and the charge nurse said well you were messing with your hands earlier and asked if I was sure I hadn't already hurt my hand and I said I figet alot and she said no you don't and I was like um yes I do. I did not appreciate being called a liar.

I like nursing home work but I know I am burned out but at the same time I am scared to try anything else. I worked at this factory before through a temp agency and I did like it. But I am still afraid.

They have open interviews on Tuesday at 2 but I am supposed to be at work at the nursing home at the same time. So I am not sure what to do I don't want to quit my current job unless I have a job guarentee from a new one. And I really don't know if I want to quit or not. But I have noticed that I have already founds some things I didn't like at this new job and I have only been there a month and I know there will always be downsides to jobs but this is more to do with people working there they are all nice but its like some people there kind of give me redflags. And I guess the big part of it is I am tired of working my hind end off for nothing to show.

But yet I am still scared to do something about it I mean I know I should but its kind of one of those things of the devil you know is better than the one you don't.

So what I want to know is if you were in my postion what would you do?

if your current jobs is making you feel upset or annoyed, and sending up "red flags" i would go for the interview
, you could try getting time off work - you don't need to say what for! the money would be better too! you can go for the interview and see what happens
. keep us posted,

Probably at work :(
I work in a nursing home/retirement center as well, and have been there 11 years. I can relate to everything you're saying! I think I am in a comfort zone so I probably will never leave. I started there when I was 18, and before that I only had 2 other jobs, so its pretty much all I know.

But, first let me say that you truly are a special person to be a CNA because its a hard, dirty job most times. And I can't believe you only make $8 something an hour! That job deserves more money!! And in my area it seems CNA's are always in demand, whether it be nursing home, private duty, hospital, etc. So, I wouldn't worry about finding another job, if that's even a concern.

I say go for the factory job. I haven't had a holiday off the whole time I've been at my job, so it might be nice to see what that's like. Don't let yourself think CNA work is the only avenue for you. You said you haven't been at this new job long, so maybe getting out before you have a lot vested to it would be a good thing. But, leave on good terms because you never want to burn bridges. Especially if you're in a small town in KY, you may want to return to this place at a later time.

Good luck!!

I agree, if you are not very happy where you are and not making much money, go for the interview. As someone else said though, don't let your current employer know that is what you are doing, use dr appt or something as you never want to burn bridges. If you liked the factory work before and you make more money and the biggest benefit is medical insurance paid for by the company, that is almost not heard of these days. Let us know what happens.

I second this!

It does sound like you're kind of burnt out. I'd at least check out the interview and see what they can offer you.

Ah I don't think you have anything to be afraid about. If you don't like the situation you're in, then pack up and move on. There's plenty of opportunities out there and you don't have to marry yourself to any single job because you feel an obligation, etc.

Factory jobs do have great benefits and you earn a lot of money, but it gets pretty mindless and boring after a while. If you make a decision, rather than thinking just about the immediate future, think long term goals. Do you see yourself working in the factory 5-10 years from now and still being happy? What about in the nursing home? Where do you want to be in 5-10 years?

Also, it's good for your mental well being to have a change of atmosphere every now and then. If you do accept the factory job, even if it's for just a couple years, it might be better for you health wise.

Wishing I were anywhere but here
I think you should go for it. If you aren't really happy with where you are at, you don't have anything to lose by doing the interview. You can always say no if they want to hire you. You never know until you try.
