Hi peeps

glad i found this site, am worried sick about one of my cats, ghandi came in this morning and was not his usuall self, ie demanding to be fed LOL anyways he was very off and a little while later we noticed there was blood seeping from his tail area.. my wife had a look and thought the was a thorn stuck in his tail.. but it was in fact bone.. we rushed him off to the vets and the vet said he has to perform surgery by cutting off 2" from his tail.

I understand that a cats tail is vital for balance etc so we are really worried about his future as he is very much an outdoor cat, have any forum members had similar surgery for their cats? would love to hear some views and perhaps gain some reassurance.

many thanks for reading this and all contributions are greatly appreciated.

regards

My Carly's tail doesn't even work, it hangs down limply but she is able to jump and move fine. Much is a Manx and only has a tail stub. Again, she is able to jump, perch, etc without a problem.

Many members have had cats whose tails were amputated fully and did not have problems.

Manx cats have no tail and ok with balance.

So taking 2 inches off will not affect the balance - only the appearance of a shorter tail

As long as it heals fine, he will be ok
