Has anyone ever noticed that the moon seems move across the sky faster on some nights than others? Like the other night the moon was clear over on the west side at 12:30 in the morning. Other times it will still be high in the sky at 12:30. What's up with that?

The moon has it's own orbit speed around the earth. Also the moon has it's own trajectory across the sky which changes throughout the year. It doesn't follow a normal path like the sun since the sun's path is determined by the earth's rotation, and the moon's path is determined by the moon's orbit PLUS the earth's rotation.
