I rescued a stray mom cat with one kitten. They have both been with me for about 2 months now but the mom cat won't take a rest on the begging for food. She has weened her kitten but wants to eat like every 2-4 hours. I had her treated for parasites and worms however she still looks a little bloated in the belly. I was thinking I should do this treatment again but really can't afford the vet this month. Can I get those treatments over the counter? Is the begging and the bloating related?

Hey Deanna,

When I read your post I thought...the cat has wormed. Sometimes 1 worming doesn't do the trick. This was posted on another message board:

Ask your vet for something called "Profender" for momma instead of
panacur - it's a back of the neck spot-on worm treatment and very
effective.

Here is a link about it:

It's looks to be around $20 because it looks to be out of Australia.

What did the vet perscribe to you before??

I agree on the worming, since it can take more than once to do the trick, especially if you say her belly is round and fat. That is usually worms, kittens, or FIP (god forbid).

With stray cats, it is not unusual for them to eat as if it is their last meal since they don't know when the next one is coming. If you worm them again (be careful on the little one if you worm it not to overdo the medicine) and the mom still begs like crazy and is not pregnant (you will need the vet on this one, I think)- I would make sure not to "free feed" them and follow instructions based on their age and weight to the extent possible,
