Hi, I have another question again. In some of my earlier posts I told you I have trapped some feral moms and their kittens. One particular male kitten is turning out to be a good little kitty, he purrs now and everything when you walk into the bathroom where he is kept. The only problem is he wont use the litter box, he uses my sink,,,,yuck,,,. Does anyone have any solutions to that? He is about 12-14 weeks old. He will be going to the rescue next week.

The cat rescue took in a bullfrog and called me, I told her I would swap a frog for a kitten, lol. But I would like him to use the box as he stands a better chance of getting a home.

Hmmmm, he may not recognize the litter as where he's supposed to go. You could try putting regular dirt in the litter box and see if he uses that. Perhaps you could try putting a small litter box in the sink?? You could try putting his poo in the unused box. That's all I can think of right off the top of my head at the moment.

Fill the litterbox with dirt. Put him in it and scratch his little paws in it. In a few days, fill with 3/4 dirt, 1/4 unscented plain clay litter (not clumping kind). A few days later, go to 1/2 dirt, 1/2 litter. Continue to reduce the amount of dirt gradually until he's on 100% litter.

With one of my feral kittens, I had to "seed" the box using a couple clumps from another box (and my other two kittens). After he smelled that someone else had gone there, he got the idea.

If you have a large dog crate, it might be a good idea to confine him to the crate with a litter pan for a few days. Once he uses it a few times, he should be able to come out and still know where to go.
