I posted about her the other day, throwing up green. We took her to the vet the next day, when we saw that she'd stopped eating. They checked her, hydrated her, observed her all day, and then sent her home with instructions to try to feed her and call back today. Today she was worse, so I took her in. I got a call about noon that they wanted to do exploratory surgery.
It was a blockage. An ear plug from my husband's office (he works in a steel fab place, and they have to wear earplugs if they go in the shop. Ear plugs end up in his pocket when he leaves the shop) They got it out, but it was really bad. Her stomach was ready to rupture, and the blockage was where the stomach empties into the small intestine (so basically, the ear plug was plugging her intestine, and backing up the contents of her stomach). They had to cut her stomach, her small intestine and her large intestine.
When the vet called, Lucy was already waking up and stirring, but the worry now is that she will develop aspiration pneumonia from the fluids backing up so far from her stomach. They also need to keep an eye on her for infection of any of the internal sutures. She'll be staying at the vet's office for several days and, best case scenario, she'll hopefully come home on a good round of antibiotics.
The vet said that's one expensive ear plug. I don't even want to know, and I'm afraid to ask how much. I just want my little girl OK.
