My cat was just diagnosed with uti. I found him the one day going to litter box, leaving litter box then returning right to litter box. He did this over and over again. So I watched more carefully and realized he wasnt peeing in box. Then he would get up on bed and dribble pee on blankets and it was sorta bloody. I took him right to vet and he had to stay the night. I was hit with a huge vet bill and continued antibiotics for weeks. They put him on special diet but my cat does not like this food and will only eat if he's hungry. He has lost alot of weight but seems to be fine otherwise. Should I be concerned with his weight lose?

Well if the food is better quality then what you were feeding him before, then you can expect him to eat less. But if he is losing weight significantly (assuming he was not already overweight) then you might want to be concerned. What food did the vet recommend you switch to? I would continue leaving out a dry food for the UTI problem, but also add wet food to the diet. Especially in cats with UTI problems, but also males and even all cats in general, they don't usually take in enough water leading to urinary problems. So it is important to increase their water intake by feeding wet food. Ideally an all wet diet would be best, add even more water to it to make is soupy if you want to and if your cat will eat it. You can also buy a cat fountain to encourage more drinking. It is also important to find a high quality, non-fish based wet food too. No Whiskas or Friskies or grocery store brands, get some good quality food for your little guy.

Good luck!

It's probably just because he doesn't like the food. It was probably crystals and he needs the RX diet until it clears up. I wouldn't worry about him losing a little weight unless it's a lot of he looks too skinny. If his symptoms don't improve in a week I'd take him back to the vet.

How large was the bill? Do they tell you what they are going to do before hand? I had a vet that recommended like $600 worth of stuff when Hailey had a UTI, I just got the urinalysis, which was much cheaper and I think if they find crystals and it gets treated and then the cat is fine what is the point of the other tests?

You might want to try another vet.

I took Smokey back to vet..he has another urinary tract infections so is back on antibiotics and they switch his food hoping he would like this stuff more.
He wont eat at all now and is very weak. Im hoping antibiotics kick in and he will feel good enough to eat something. This seems like a losing battle but Im willing to do whatever I have to and spend whatever I have to in order to get Smokey better.
