Right now Zorro's not on any pain medication. Just prednisone for the inflammation. Its been working really well, but for the last week or so, he's been meowing alot. He's the type of cat that almost never meows. I think I've heard him meow more times in the last week than I have in the past two years. Could this mean that he's in pain? Should I maybe talk to the vet about pain meds? I hate him being on so many things, but I don't want him to be in pain.

Cats hide their pain and typically this is done by withdrawing -- hiding under the bed, being less active and quieter than normal. So excessive vocalization doesn't really fit the usual profile. But that's not to say that he isn't in pain. You know your cat better than we do and in case of unusual behavior it's always a good idea to call your vet and see what he thinks. Keep us posted -- let us know what you find out.

I've been debating about calling the vet for a few days now. I'm always calling them about something or another. They probably think I'm the crazy cat woman
. I'll give them a call though and ask anyways.

Join the club... we're probably putting our vet's kids through college. At least you have an actual something to call about... our usual call goes something like "Suchandso cat isn't acting quite right, but it's nothing I can really pinpoint..."

So far our record for most pointless bothering of a vet... Lightning had dirt on his nose. We thought it was dirt at first, so we tried to wash it off. Apparently we failed to use sufficient pressure and it didn't come off. My husband (his owner, by the cat's choice) automatically leaped to nose cancer.

Because Lightning used to spend a lot of time sitting in windows, and his nose is mostly white... he would get sunburns on his poor little nose.

It seemed logical at the time.
