Need Advice with Possible Stray/Feral Tom Cat

Hello~

There is a beautiful Orange & White male cat that I have been feeding for about a month now. He runs when I come near but from afar he will answer my "here kitty-kitty" with soft meows.

I'm at a loss as to what to do as I don't know for sure if he has a home or not. He appears very healthy and clean but like I said, he just seemed to be hanging around my house a lot and so I started leaving him food...just in case. He eats every night.

The rains will be starting soon and the temp dropping. I'm on the Oregon coast so the weather here is not freezing until Dec or Jan.

Suggestions and advice on what I should be doing for him besides just the feeding...

Thanks a bunch!

Hi there....what I would recommend you do is to borrow a humane trap (you can borrow one from a local humane society or TNR organization)and trap him so that he can be vet checked and neutered (if he isn't already neutered) . The vet can also check for a microchip. Contact local shelters and rescues to them know that you found this cat and post flyers in your neighborhood. There are really good articles on building an outdoor cat shelter:

TNR groups in Oregon:

But please get him vet checked first.

Most likely it's a feral with no home, but yeah get him neutered and vaccinated and he may become friendly and eventually let you pet him. You can put flyers up to just to make sure.

See if you can make a cat house for him to stay in during the winter, line it with straw.

And always have water for him too.

Thank you Keith...I am leaving fresh water out for him as well and I really apprecaite the suggestion about using straw. I wouldn't have thought of that for warmth!!
