Right now we have 14 cats and 12 kittens. There is a total of 15 litterboxes. We use a clay scooping litter for the cats. I think it's called Premium Choice. We get it in 50lb bags. For the kittens we use World's Best.

The litterboxes are scooped twice daily and litter is added as needed. Some boxes are used much more than others. Seems the favorite of one is the favorite of many.

All boxes are changed and disinfected every week. Sometimes more often.

We don't use any additives.

So, how often do you scoop? After Chuckie poops
so maybe 1-2 times a day

How often do you add litter? I don't top up

How often do you totally change the litter/clean the box (I do this together, don't know if everyone does)? Once a week.

What litter do you use and do you use any additives? We;ve tried a few different ones, but he likes the clay stuff the best, even though it's messy. Sometimes (if i remember) we put in the deodoriser as well.

And of course, how many cats do you have? 1 at my house, 2 at Tristans

Ok this is what happens once a week -

Empty contents of the tray, newspaper paper that lines the floor, and brush up any litter on the floor (we have floorboards) into a garbage bag. Put down new paper. Wash the tray as the urine can get through the liner when he scratches it. Dry. Put a new plastic liner in the tray. Put in deodoriser. Fill with new clean litter. Put it down and expect it to be christened withing 5 seconds

It takes probably 15 mins to get it all done as the litter is kept in the garage and the bags are heavy, and you have to go out to the garbage bin as well.

I have two cats using Arm & Hammer Multi-Cat and Nature's Miracle litter additive in two "large" uncovered litter boxes. I scoop once a day (okay, sometimes every other day). I add more when a scooping session seems to leave the box a little empty. I dump everything and start over once a week. I only add the Nature's Miracle when I start a "new" box (once a week).

I want to switch to Feline Pine, but I haven't decided between the regular pellets or the clumping/scoopable. I use the regular pellets for my ferret, so I'm already familiar with its odor-absorbing capabilities, but I'm not yet sold on the Feline Pine litter box for the regular pellets. I can get my Arm & Hammer Multi-Cat just about anywhere, but the Feline Pine clumping/scoopable isn't as readily available, so I'm trying to do my research before switching.

So, how often do you scoop? Rarely

How often do you add litter? Rarely

How often do you totally change the litter/clean the box (I do this together, don't know if everyone does)? Bi-daily

What litter do you use and do you use any additives? It's simply the pelleted animal bedding, works great and is cheap.

And of course, how many cats do you have? My litter box maintenance is based around when I have foster families, it varies, usually 5-ish.

KJ, I'm just trying to get a little clarification...

You use the pellet litter and dump it all out twice a day? If so, what size/type box do you use?

If not, could you explain?

When I had foster kittens, I did the "shelter method" and just used shallow cardboard boxes with non-clumping clay litter and threw out the whole thing once or twice a day (depending on how old they were). With bigger cats, it seems impractical in a home setting, so I'm curious as to how you make it work, if that's what you're actually doing.

Scoop: one or twice daily, mostly twice
Add litter : occassionally
Totally clean: Not sure; every 2-3 weeks
Additives: lots of baking soda
Cats: only one inside kitty, I am really wanting a litter robot though, scooping up cat poo twice daily is not fun.

Average size, I dunno. I fostered. See, all it is is one mother cat and four or so kittens. Lots of poo and pee. too much scooping. It was far easier to just dump it - if you don't use expensive litter, it's fine. Also, my kittens had a problem with litter eating. They couldn't eat pelleted litter, so it was fine. Our permenant cats are indoor/outdoor so in the summer they go outside. I've yet to encounter a winter with that litter, so I can't really tell you much about that yet. You could easily scoop it, but if you want something that deodorizes, it's not for you. They only cost 3$ for a 25 or so pound bag, and for about 4 pounds each box dumping (you don't really have to dump twice a day) it's a good deal, imo. I think the cats very much appreciate having a clean box.

KJ, so you're using regular plastic litter boxes, just dumping the litter out?

With a mom and kittens, I can see scooping being a pain. Actually, scooping is never really fun.

Lol yeah.. I found scooping to be annoying... you know how kitten poo is, and I never could seem to be able to rid it of the scent. Plus, clay litter has a yucky smell anyway. It makes me sneeze, though I have no known allergy to it.

So, how often do you scoop?
I scoop whenever I see/smell poop; basically, once a day.

How often do you add litter?
About twice a week.

How often do you totally change the litter/clean the box?
I've just started using the Feline Pine litter box, so I won't be dumping any unused litter. I don't yet know how often I will dump the used pellets; maybe once a month?

What litter do you use and do you use any additives?
Pellet fuel!! Specifically, oak pellets made by Ozark Hardwood Products. $4 for a 40 lb bag, and it's great litter. I love it (and the FP litter box)!

And of course, how many cats do you have?
One cat, one box.

So, how often do you scoop?
I scoop a minimum of once or twice a day.

How often do you add litter?
I don't usually have to before the complete change

How often do you totally change the litter/clean the box?
once a week I clean them both and change the litter.

What litter do you use and do you use any additives?
I use worlds best cat litter, no additives but I am seriously considering something that will help with the odor.

And of course, how many cats do you have?
I only have Jack. But I have 2 litter boxes for him one on each floor of the house. I am too nervous to go down to one box with him yet since he wont even finish eating his food unless I am on the same floor of the house

I add a big big jumbo cup of litter maybe every 2-3 days except when I know a total renewal is coming up.

I try to make it last as long as possible...usually 2.5-3 weeks.

Tidy Cats clumping immediate odor control but when this tub is done I will be trying Special Kitty w/ crystals. I've heard good thing about it and it's considerably cheaper. I also use Arm and Hammer Cat litter deoderizer if it starts to have a funk.

So, how often do you scoop?
Usually 2-3 times daily. Occasionally more if Red Cat puts up a fuss.
He likes his bathroom clean!

How often do you add litter?
I don't. What I do when the amount of litter starts getting too low is to combine the used litter from two of the boxes into one, wash the other box and put in fresh litter. I do this every 3-7 days. I have the boxes numbered, so I know which boxes have the older litter in them so no litter goes beyond about 10 days of use.

How often do you totally change the litter/clean the box?

Every week to 10 days.

What litter do you use and do you use any additives?

Special Kitty clumping. No additives.

And of course, how many cats do you have?
Three cats, usually three boxes, each with 14 pounds of litter. If I'm going to be gone and have a cat-sitter come in only once a day, I use five boxes. One of my cats has kidney failure, so the boxes get heavy use.

Whenever needed (normally every other day, and just a small amount)

How often do you totally change the litter/clean the box?

Biocatolet (paper based) with no additives, although we did get a deodoriser we haven't been brave enough to use it incase they don't like it.

And of course, how many cats do you have?
2x 5 month old kittens

So, how often do you scoop?
It depends on how Nikita's tummy is doing. She has a tendency to get loose stools and if that happens I scoop whenever she has finished using the litterbox. If we're having a good spell which means her poo dosen't smell much at all I scoop every other day.

How often do you add litter?
I add a bit whenever I scoop.

How often do you totally change the litter/clean the box (I do this together, don't know if everyone does)?
Around every 2-3 weeks.

What litter do you use and do you use any additives?
I use Catsan clumping. It's very fine grained clumping clay litter that clumps well and Nikita really likes (I have two litterboxes and have done comparison tests, i.e using differenet litters in each box)

And of course, how many cats do you have?
Just the one

I have two litterboxes for her so for one cat scooping every other day is ok as long as her tummy is fine.

I use Tidy Cat clumping litter for multiple cats.
I also use a baking soda additive (the orange box that is made for litter boxes), I can't remember the name right now. I usually only add that 1-2 times a week.
I have 2 cats and 2 litter boxes.
I scoop once a day or once every other day.
I completely clean every month. throw out the litter, wash out the litter box with soap.
I only have to add more litter about once every 1-2 weeks.

This if fun!
I like to see what others do!

I have 2 cats, 2 booda domes, and use "world's best cat litter." http://www.worldsbestcatlitter.com/ Before I found this litter, I was using shredded newspaper. I just didn't like the texture of and chemicals/perfumes used in cat litter. This one is totally safe, really absorbant and excellent at neutralizing odor. It has a very organic feel and smell to it.

I don't scoop. I line the booda domes with newspaper and add 4-6 cups of litter. I replace the litter and wash the boxes twice a week. This would not be possible if my cats were not raw fed though!

I scoop twice a day, morning and night and more if necessary

How often do you add litter?

I add a little every other day.

How often do you totally change the litter/clean the box (I do this together, don't know if everyone does)?
About once a month.

What litter do you use and do you use any additives?
I use FreshStep Multi-Cat Strength. I also use A & H Cat Liter Deodorizer, if I notice any smell between changes.

And of course, how many cats do you have?
I have 4, but only 2 in the house full time.
