I am just LIVID at this story! How DARE he!! Is he stupid or just has no compassion? I simply cannot believe in 2007 that he doesn't KNOW that this could be damaging to both the woman and the children.

Why not? I mean it's only a woman and a child right?

Ahhh, yes, the Injustice System strikes again, continuing to re-victimize victims.

If (and I can only hope this doesn't happen) one of those abusive scumbags uses this as an opportunity to do violence against their ex, I hope the judge gets charged as an accessory.

That is totally asinine! In addition to the emotional trauma of meeting again, but doesn't he realize that many MANY abuses happen after the victim has left! What a moron!

This just proves my point time and again that the law is sympathetic to the criminal. The leniency of sentences handed down in most sexual or physical assault cases against women is disgraceful. The women have already been through a terrible time and surely had a rough time getting out of the situation; let's make them re-live that nightmare!

Can he be voted out of office or impeached?

And you wonder why women fought for their rights for so long. This brings them back to the 1800's.

In the best interest of the child?? That's what burns me up!! All these people trying to do what's best for children! Do they even have children? I guess I'd be spending time in jail...cause there would be no court that could make me put one of my kids thru this.

Unfortunately, judges are not elected, they are appointed, and because it is a "for life" appointment, it is incredibly difficult if not impossible to get a judge removed from the bench.

I know, I tried once. I was told by the Governor's Legal Advisor that because the governor had made the appointment, that to pull the judge would be an admittance that the Governor made a poor choice, and therefore, that just wasn't going to happen.

Politics REALLY ticks me off, especially when it negatively affects the lives of victims. The politicians just don't care about anything except money and the next rung up the ladder.

OHHH Geeezzzzzzzzz this judge has to have his head on backwards or something. No way should women have to keep dealing with an abusive ex even if they have kids with them. And to give the abuser your private info is just plain STUPID.

I'd never comply with it!

I'm all for parents working together for their children. Just because you divorce does not mean you are no longer a parent....but when one parent has been abusive, there is no need for them to see each other if they don't want to. Has this judge considered that forcing parents in this situation back together, many result in further abuse. That is not a good situation to put children in.

I have to laugh at the thread title: "Idiots in positions of power." How true. And yet, I don't know why we're complaining. In many cases, it's we the people that put them there.

Some judges are elected, at least here in Wisconsin they are. And the rest of them are appointed by someone who's elected.

So, in the end, we put those idiots in power. I guess we get what we deserve.

Here in Colorado I believe they are appointed, but every election there are some on the ballot to re-approve or not (I don't think that's the terminology, but you get the point ). I know it goes in cycles, but I'm not sure what the "term" is for judges.

I guess it's a good thing that at least this is getting some publicity. Maybe people will actually stop to look at the judges we are keeping on the bench (there is always a "recommendation" from a committee that discusses their judgement record and such in the booklet about elections) instead of blindly reapproving them.

Mediation is always the best way to resolve child custody issues, but not if there is a history of abuse in the relationship.

Some judges are elected though.

I cannot abide liberal, activist judges that do stuff like this.

At least Colorado got rid of Ward Churchill

Gee whiz, that's funny...I assumed that this judge is a conservative, not a liberal, as liberals tend to care more about the rights of victims, at least in my experience.

In my experience conservative judges are tougher on crime and the liberal judges think the criminals are the victims.

Be that as it may, liberal or conservative, this judge is a moron

I read about it in the paper this morning. He actually told one of the women who had a restraining order that she had to provide details of her whereabouts so he could contact the child at any times.
