over the past year I've had this happen, much worse on my right side then the left, short of draining it i don't know if there is anything else I can do to help improve this.I don't know if there is even enough to make it worth going through the draining process but it hurts really bad. I have trouble working and going to sleep, let alone any exercise. suggestions? similar experiences? this stinks
(I hate how I can't edit the tittle, obviously that's suppose to say get)

Did you doctor mention Ice and elevation. Cold therapy can help control pain and swelling. Apply ice to your knee for 15 to 20 minutes every two to four hours. You may use a bag of ice, frozen vegetables, or an iced towel cooled down in your freezer. When you ice your knee, raise your knee higher than the level of your heart, using pillows for comfort.
Found this off mayo clinic.
Hope you feel better!

I know this one well, I was diagnosed with ostroarthritis in both my knees about six years ago.
When my knees flare up one of the effects is water on the joint. I have had my knees drained before but that is sort of a last resort.

What my doctor did give me was fluid pills that I take when it starts. They help but do make you go to the bathroom a lot.
Ice helps, but heat is not a good idea because it can actually aggravate the problem. Also when you are sitting down try to keep you feet elevated.
Aspirin or Ibuprofen work the best because they are anti-inflammatories , Tylenol will help with the pain but will do nothing for the underlying condition.

Also make sure you get enough rest fatigue really makes it much worse.

Also here are a few vibes for hoping they feel better soon...
