A few weeks ago, our cat peed on the guest bedroom bed twice in one week. We took him to the vet 2 weeks ago and they said his ph was 6.5 and should be 6 and that he had some crystals in his urine. They put him on a prescription diet and he's been on only that since then and hasn't had any accidents. We've been keeping the bedroom doors shut. Two days ago we had a bay window installed so I had to put him in the master bedroom for the day and he did fine. To get him in there so I could shut the door and keep him from running out with me, I did give him a few "Pounce" brand treats cuz I didn't think the prescription diet would be enough to get him to go into the room long enough for me to close the door with him in there. He did fine staying in there the whole day and used his litter box. This morning my husband accidentally shut him in the guest room after ironing in there and when I got up an hour after my husband left, I looked around and found he was shut in there. I checked the bed and he peed on it again. Do you think the Pounce treats were enough to make him do that again or do you think he could smell the pee from before? We sprayed the bed with Febreeze the last time and flipped the mattress over so we thought that would kill the smell. Any thoughts or suggestions on this are very welcome. Thanks.

It's more than likely that he got the smell and was re-marking his territory. You need to scrub the mattress and put all the bedding in a very hot wash when this happens and not just spray febreeze. I used diluted dettol the time my cat peed on our bed but I also limited his access to the room. I literally scrubbed 10 minutes after it happened though. I know enzyme cleaners are the best generally for getting rid of pee smells and stains.

If you catch him in the act make sure you isolate him somewhere with a litter box for an hour or so to make sure he knows he did wrong!!

I just ran and got a spray bottle of Nature's Miracle. I through the sheets and blanket in the washer on hot this morning. I'll scrub the mattress before putting the bedding back on after work today. I suppose we should flip the mattress and scrub the other side since that's where he did it the first 2 times. Surprising that he could smell all the way through the mattress. We thought flipping it would be good enough but I guess not. We'll definately have to be careful not to let him in that room. Isn't it weird that he went all day in the other bedroom a couple days ago while there were all kinds of strange noises going on while they were installing the bay window and he didn't do it on that bed? His litter box was in there with him though.

Do you think that his crystals would be cleared up by now since he didn't have them bad and we've had him on prescription diet for 2 weeks and 2 days?

I'm glad you like it. I didn't tell my husband about it cuz I didn't want to ruin his day and I knew he'd notice the bed stripped down when he got home cuz he has most of his clothes in that bedroom. He just called and I told him I got Nature's Miracle and he thought that wouldn't do anything and that the mattress was ruined. I'll tell him that it's great stuff.

I hope Frankie stops doing this cuz if this continues, my husband is already saying we might have to take him back to the humane society. I told him no way. I just wish it would stop so it doesn't start fights over the cat between us.
