I've noticed lately that Muskrat (my adopted stray that lives outside my deck) has been tearing up in the left eye a lot, and it's not clear but brownish color. I know that sometimes clear tears dry brown and can stain, but I just wiped her tears off as they were coming down and it's definitely brown! I'm kind of concerned. She seems to be fine though and it's only in her left eye. I pried opened the eye and didn't see any redness. I want to take her to the vet but the last time I took her to see my vet to get her fixed, she freaked out and I was told she was very fiesty. I don't know how she will react if the vet checks her out. It seems that she only feels safe with me. Whenever she sees other neighbers come home, she'll run and hide untill they are all gone. I just hope she's alright. I've been wiping her white nose with wet papertowel and noticed that some days there are less stain than others... so I don't know what could be causing this problem. If it's an allergy, wouldn't it be in both eyes and not just one? Any ideas? Thanks!

My cat has runny eyes with a reddish tint which is common in Persians. I use a warm washcloth to clean and then go over her eyes with a dry one. Every couple of days I use a solution called Eye Envy to remove the tear stains. When I adopted her I was told to expect this but I took her to the vet to be on the safe side. My advice would be take Muskrat to the vet just to be safe.

Thanks ExoticBabee. I'm not sure if Muskrat is part Persian or not. She's got very pretty green eyes though. Can I get "Eye Envy" anywhere? Or is it only from the Vet's office? I checked on her today, and she seems okay. I had another thought, I'm worried it's from the grass that she plays and sleep in during the day that's causing this. She likes to rub her face into everything! Oh well, I'll have to keep watching her. I'd keep her inside my apartment if I could, but I have 2 very spoiled indoor kitties that are afraid of everything and they are afraid of Muskrat. Thanks!
