My Pretty Little One

Bonita died this weekend. She was an outdoor feral cat that I had fed for the last 5 and 1/2 years. She had 16 kittens in the yard before I was able to trap her and have her spayed. She was a wonderful mother.

To keep her kittens safe, she had her next-to-last litter on the roof of a two-story building. She brought them down when they were about five weeks old and ready to eat. Two of them were adopted and one still lives in the garden.

We have three of her children still here and two more that are related to her.

I am rambling, I guess. When I moved into this building there were five cats living in the garden. Now they are all gone. Three died, one was taken to a shelter, and one disappearred.

I am so sad, I have tears streaming down my face.

My sweet Bonita, who would not be tamed, I loved you and I'll miss you and so do the other cats.

Aw, I'm so sorry. At least Bonita had someone to care for her while she was alive.

I'm so sorry Katie. I remember when you used to chronicle your colony. I'm so sorry they are all gone now...how heartbreaking!

I am so sorry for your loss! You were a great stray cat mommie, you gave them love and kindness....it's wonderful they could experience that. to you and your kitties, you are so good!

The poor angel I'm sure she knows just how much you helped her and her babies, not to mention how much you loved her

It always seems almost funny for people to thank me for caring for the outside cats. They give me so much in return for the little care I'm able to give them.

I know Bonita appreciated everything that I did. I looked forward to seeing her everyday and when I lose a cat, the garden feels so empty for awhile. Then they start doing things that make me laugh again. Bonita was especially good at making me that way. She was a wonderful girl.

Thank you AlleyGirl and msjazz2u. It's hard to believe it's been a week almost and I still can't think of her without tears rolling down my face. It's also hard to go out and face the other cats knowing she's gone now. I had no idea how much I just expected her to always be part of my life here at Colonia de las Rosas. She was just basic.
