Twice in a week, while I was scooping out the litter box, one of my cats has walked a couple feet away and pooped on the floor. She has never gone anywhere but in the litter box before, so this is new behavior. Lately she seems at times to want me to go watch while she uses the litter box.

Maybe she doesn't like the litter you are using or maybe she wants a seperate box for poop.

Thanks for the reply. But I've always used the same litter and nothing has changed - she has always shared with her "sister". The funny thing is that the only two times she has pooped outside the box was when I was in there scooping out the box.

How often do you change or scoop the litter? Could she be so anxious to use the new litter that she can't wait?

Do you know she's not peeing anywhere else? A black light is great for identifying stains from cat pee. You might want to check with the vet and make sure it's not medical.
