Hi, i'm a new user here. Forum looks great, been browsing for awhile now.

anyways, long story short. my mom got me a kitten from someone at her work they told her it was "6 weeks" and ive heard its a bad idea to have a kitten by itself at that age, but i dont think shes 6 weeks. she eats great and goes to the bathroom in the litter box all by herself. very playful and energetic. could you guys guess her age based on this pictures? also she tends to bite a lot or scratch, cant really pet her any tips?

also i put a video of her on youtube:

She is gorgeous!! I would guess that she's closer to 12 weeks of age. A playmate would help disperse some of that energy!!

yeah she is all gray with white paws and a little white under her neck, I'm gonna call her slippers or socks one of the two, but i think it sounds bad, possibly perfect or precious. I just hate to see her get bigger =[

I know!! I have been missing having baby kitties myself!! It's tough trying to decide on a name, that's for sure. Especially for such a cute little girl!

Yeah she's probably closer to 12 weeks. She looks bigger than ours did when we got ours. Do you know how much she weighs about? She's adorable and looks exactly like ours does except her fur looks longer!

She's a gorgeous little thing. Blossom used to bite & scratch. I read lots on the net to see what to do. I used to lock her in the bathroom or put her in her crate when she was especially bad. If she was doing something very naughty I gave her a squirt of water. Now she stops what she's doing when I pump the bottle.

i would say shes about 3-4 pounds, i honestly don't know and my dads in the bathroom so i cant use that scale [even though i don't think it would work]. she is very playful and full of energy. When I am first waking up its tough, she usually sleeps on my pillow throughout the night [its so cute] but once I wake up she starts going under the covers and biting my feet and legs [hurts] and thats my only real complaint. I go on the computer, shell hop on me and sit next to me, I go to the bed and she does the same. really smart cat. It seems like her hair is going to be long, its already kinda puffing out. I honestly don't even know what kind of cat she is. Any ideas?

Ah sweet kitty. She looks older than 6 weeks but its hard to say exactly and she is a bit furrier than my kitten, I agree probably about 10/11 weeks. We got Luna at 7 weeks and her legs still looked really delicate. She started looking stronger at 8 weeks. I've put some photos of Luna below, I hope these are helpful. The one on the left she is 7 weeks and the one on the right 8 weeks/5 days. I think you can see
she looks slightly stronger in her legs and her head is bigger in the second pic.

Luna also liked to play (scratch/bite) with us when we got her and wouldn't let us pet her without this. She's just playing and you should remove your hand and redirect her attention to toys when she does this, so that she associates toys with play and not your hands (or whatever). Have a selection of toys nearby so you can easily grab one.

The aim is to associate your hand with petting and toys with play. Whenever she bites/scratches when you pet her, remove your hand and say loudly 'ow', or whatever sound you make when you are hurt. She will soon learn that this is not rewarding behaviour and stop. Luna's 10 weeks now and shes turned into a really friendly purry kitten who is sitting on me now, and she actively goes and plays with her toys herself when she wants to be psycho kitty. She has not bitten or clawed us for at least a week now and I think that means it worked!

What a doll!! She's absolutely precious! Make sure you have LOTS of toys for her to play with. Maybe in the mornings when you're waking up, you can get one of the toys on a stick kind of thing and play with her while still in bed (you in bed, her on the floor). Of course, the other thing would be to keep her out from under the covers. Little kitties just have TONS of energy and are so excited when their humans are awake. All they think about at that age is play, play, play!! Occasionally it's food, food, food, too!

thanks steph, yeah I actually got one of those stick things today, she loves it. My room is kinda hot and she was panting after playing so I was a little worried. Also I don't know how to really read a cats mood, and my cat tends to stick the middle of her body up kinda like arch her back and like hops off it seems scared but could be excited. [hard to explain] I got a vet appointment Oct 1st for her first shots and a check up so yeah. I can deff. tell shes heavier. Really is great having a kitten

When we got our kitten she was 10 weeks and looked about the size of yours. She still LOVES to be under the covers and I let her now, but the instant she starts to bite or scratch under there I rip the covers back really fast and say "NO!" then take her out. She very rarely does it now, even if one of us rolls over without knowing she's under there! LOL I don't know why kitties like it underthere, I would think it gets hot!

We keep a water bowl in our office, the livingroom, and our bedroom. I started this mostly because she would drink out of my water cup at night (we use coffee travel cups now, in case you like water at night and need a tip haha), but also because of heat/dehydration. This also promotes healthy water intake, which is really important in cats. She doesn't drink out of our cups anymore (and a few people told me I was stupid and other mean things when I said it was to keep her from drinking out of cups. Cats are a lot smarter than people think). The main reason we use travel mugs now is because her new game is to kick everything off of the coffee table and our nightstands. Its not a happy thing to wake up in the middle of the night with water everywhere, but she loves it
.

Congratulations on the new addition, she is just BEAUTIFUL! I also wanted to say good job
taking her to the vet!! It is so important for a healthy cat and there are so many people who get a new pet and don't bother taking it to the vet, getting it vaccinations, and not spaying/neutering it.
