My 12 week old kitten, Trixie, has been with us since Thursday, so not quite a week yet. First time my 2 yro female cat (spayed), Jasmine, noticed her was the day after, with just a brief meeting under the door crack. Hissing and growling ever since. We have kept them seperate all the time, just let them see each other through the door and walking past one cat with the other in-arms. We let them meet face to face yesterday, and Jasmine hissed and growled some more, + eventually hit the kitten with her paw a couple of times (didn't use her claws).

One of the problems about the situation is that the kitten is extremely curious and wants to stalk Jasmine, which she of course can't stand. She'll try to calmly walk away from Trixie, but Trixie keeps coming after. I am afraid it will end up with Jasmine attaching Trixie. I can tell Jasmine is feeling pretty angry.

I wish Trixie would back off and give Jasmine some space and time to get used to this new situation.

I am ready with a pillow and blanket to throw between them, but do you have advice as to how to go about this? We've already exchanged their smells with hands, blankets, sniffing eachther's stuff etc. Of course we're doing this gradually, where we will remove the kitten after a while to let Jasmine have her space. But eventually they will have to be together and get used to eachother.

Are we going forward too fast, or should we just let them work it out without interferring too much? It is of course a concern with the size difference. Or should we just continue with what we're doing, reg. supervised meetings where they do their thing with Jasmine fed up?

We tried to introduce another grown cat this past spring (we had to give him back again because he turned out to be so human agressive), and that went OK. She hissed etc. then too, but the male cat would at least back off when he got a warning. He was happy to see her and wanted to be with her, but wouldn't push it. So then they were able to be around each other without such a confrontation all the time, and Jasmine ended up seeming pretty excited about the newcomer. But this kitten just can't contain herself. I think she just wants to roll around and play with Jasmine, but Jasmine isn't there yet.

Yes I do think you are moving fast. I would seperate them again. But when you do introduce again I would use lots of positive reinforcements like toys and treats.
