Live Forever?

Thread Starter
If you had the opportunity to live forever or even 100+ years, would you want to?

This sparked my question:

I think if I had to spend my remaining years in a hospital bed, then no way. However if I could look eternally youthful, then maybe...at least the 100 years part...

They've actually attributed that such longevity in some people is because of a certain gene, and also that damage/health problems accumulate over generations actually coding into it. Literally, bad genes.

I can't remember the specifics at the moment or what the exact name the gene was called.

As for living that long, heck no. The way I'm going now and my luck, I'll be in a wheel chair by my forties. I wouldn't want 50-60 more years of that.

Only if everyone like my husband, siblings, parents and family could live forever with me.

I'm really, REALLY glad that I'll be dead by the time the planet earth runs out of natural resources.

I don't want to have to witness the suffering that is yet to come - and I feel terrible about the legacy of destruction through consumption that we are leaving behind us.

Living forever would be horrifying to me. The human species time is severely limited through its own actions.

I'll be glad to cease consciousness when my time has arrived.

No way would I want to live forever here.

I bet the older we get, the longer we want to live!

I think I'd like to live another 200 or 300 years. I want to be alive when the world is like it is on The Jetsons.

You mean we're not gonna live forever?

No thanks. Women on both sides of my family live way into their 90s and 100's - my maternal grand aunt passed away recently at age 98 and a paternal great grand aunt at 106. If I could live forever, I would hope that both my body and mind were sound at old age - I wouldn't want to be a major burden to anyone and being Asian, we don't really put our old folks into homes.

If I was in good healthful and youthful, then you bet I'd live at least a long long time, if not forever, given the choice

Yes, the idea of death scares me. I would love to live forever so long as the aging process was halted and my health was good Life eternal is part of what I find so facinating about Vampyres.

Absolutely not. I don't mean to sound like a depressed person to everyone, but I often say I don't want to live much past even 50. I'm sorry I just can't seem to take the heartache that goes with living, losing loved ones etc.. I just can't handle it. Now, if it meant never losing my dear loved ones and the world becoming a better place, than perhaps.

I just live in the present and get terrified of thinking too far ahead. I don't think I'm meant to live that long, nor do I want to live to see 100 and all of the sorrows that lie ahead. There's just too many things in life that bring me down. So, death for myself does not scare me but for my loved ones it terrifies me.

Well thus far I have managed to save my life 3 times... I am 30... If I could live forever I might try to same some other lives...

Im with the No Way crowd. Being disabled already for 12 years, makes old age frightening not death. I do not want to be stuck in a bed or chair waiting to die.

If I could be a healthy, functioning, productive member of society or live in a fantasy world like a vampire I might change my mind.

Looking at it realistically, I just want to outlive my cats.

If I was in reasonable health then yes! Not forever, I guess, but I'm planning on making my century at least I wouldn't want to live a long time if I was bedbound or in pain, but normal ageing is ok with me. There are so many things I still want to do with my life, I'm not nearly done yet. And as long as I had a few furbabes by my side.

Nope, I'm happy with my DH and life. And accept whatever God chooses to give me and DH on this earth. I'm looking forward to a better place anyway
post #25 of 28
My answer is very simple. No.
No. I work at a retirement community and our oldest resident will be 107 this December. When asked about her age, she is very depressed to be so old. Her main reason is she's lonely--everyone she has known, children and grandchildren included have passed before her.
I understand and it truly is no good to live so long. She's great, though--she has glasses, hearing aids and a walker. Spry as ever and gets around great.

It's not meant to be... we live, we die, and without death life is meaningless.
