cat's eye infectionss? Help!

My sister, bless her heart, lives downtown, ferals are always around, she has just about gone broke taking all of them to be spay/neutered! These cats are getting pregant at a very young age. I'll get to the point. They are basically wild, they don't really let you get to near. One cat just had about
3 kittens, they all have eye infections, there is one that I think it is going to
be blind, both his eyes are shut, crusted over, is there something I can get to help them? that is if I can catch them! I'll do my best, and any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Yes, if you can catch them, you can begin to help with their eye infections by using a warm washcloth to gently soak away the goo and crusty stuff.

Since eye infections are extremely infectious (from cat to cat, not cat to people) just like pink eye is in people, you will need to be careful about disposing of the washcloth and rinsing it frequently between cats and eyes, even if it seems like they all have the same thing.

You need to take at least one of the kittens to the vet to get a diagnosis and some ointment or eye drops. Most vets will use steroidal drops or ointment and will assume that will take care of it. You will need to watch and make sure there is improvement over time. If it is a herpes-virus-based infection the steroid based treatment will not be good. Ideally you would want the vet to give you the meds but also do a test just to be sure.
