I'm fostering a momcat and her 2 about 6-7 week old babies. Believe me, I know they won't make the box everytime at this age. One of them, I think the male, is pooping next to the box. I did the old "put the poop in the box so he knows to go in there" trick. But daily I have 2 poops next to the box. Any tips or should I just be patient? Also, there is newspaper on the floor under and around the box. I put it there to try and save my carpet. I'm starting to think because they're not at the "cover it up" stage, he thinks that next to the box is okay. It's also runny because they're weaning I assume. Do you know of any other ways to convince him that IN the box is the way to go?

(sorry if I sound crazy, it's been a really long day and this post is the last thing I do before I go to bed!
)

Thanks!!!

Is the box possibly to high? If you put him in the box will he potty in it? You can try Kitten Attract litter also.

I tried Cat Attract today with my two 4 week olds for the very first time, in a small and low littlerbox. They did it right the first time !
Since they are not yet in their permanent room ( I just moved in ) , I brought the litterbox to them. Let's see when they have to learn the way to poop and pee, but I guess it will be ok.

use those disposable aluminum cooking pans you can buy at any grocery store. Use more than one, use plain non-clumping litter- no scented and be sure the litter is at least 2" deep. You should have one pan for each cat/kitten plus one. Also don't rule out a health issue.

They are kitten sized boxes, they have no problems getting in or out. They're actually big enough to get into mom's covered, adult size litter box. I use wheat litter with the youngsters...which I hate, but it's for them, not me! I'm still seeing 2 poops a day on the newspaper around the box. Today someone peed outside the box too. They're really young and just getting used to the whole idea. Maybe I'll try some attract litter. Is there a kitten safe kind, I've never looked into this before.
