Ok, this is TOTALLY off topic here (although prompted by the article in question) but I have always wondered this - so please forgive the hijack.

Why is it ok for Western countries such as the US and Australia to have nuclear capabilities and nuclear weapons or weapons technology, and not ok for anyone else? Are we above international law? IMO, nobody should be allowed to have nuclear weapons. I don't care who you are, or what grand ideals you purport to hold to.

This holds especially true for Australia at the moment, as our idiot Prime Moron has agreed to export Uranium to India even though they refuse to sign the Non-Proliferation Treaty.

I don't know the actual, technical or moral answer to that...but I have to agree with it based on one thing. All the western powers that possess nuclear weapons also have layer after layer after layer of safeguards to prevent their unauthorized or casual use. In the case of Iran, if they were to obtain nuclear weapons, their use would be under the control of a single person, who might just decide to use them if he gets sanctioned, wakes up from a nightmare, or eats some bad dates.

My two cents.

Nice thought, but who's going to enforce that? Intergalactic aliens with supra-nuclear technology? A little hyperbole, but you get the point. Someone has to be stronger than everyone else, or anarchy results. Anarchy with nuclear weapons means the END of life on this earth. So the fewer that have nuclear weapons the better. Nuclear weapons exist. That's a fact of life. We can never go back to no nuclear weapons. Thus, ideally, only one country, the strongest country, would have nuclear capability. And obviously, that's the U.S. But that's not going to be, because a number of countries already have nuclear weapons. The best that can be hoped at this point, is that no more countries gain them. And especially not some country like Iran with nut-cases leading the government.

Well first, france must not be getting the kick backs they got from Iraq.

It could be cause the first thing the presdent of Iran said was that, he would use them aganist Israel. Which would then result in Israel using there weapons. Then it goes downhill from there.

Yeah, but since when did France care about Israel? I'm quite surprised at this turn of events.

Lol. Only because the US thinks it's the only country in the world above international law. I tell ya, though, intergalactic aliens with supra-nuclear technology would be more useful than the UN

no one pays any attention to it,
and only those with the guns can enforce it. And guess who that is.
the US. We dont want the job. Besides no one likes the cops anyway.
Iraq is the prefect example, the did not follow the UN rules. We enforce those, and look what happens.

you cant have it both ways.you want the law, then you have to have the cop

lol thinking of the cops tv show, "BAd boys bad boys watcha gonna do when they come for you"

Nope, they don't. Including the US.

There's lots of other countries that also have the guns - but they're not allowed them, apparently.

Ahh, yeah. Good one.

Er, you didn't follow UN rules either, on that one.

That's right. Which should be a universal body made up of world nations. Not one country wanting to rule the world.

I think we've discovered what results from that. Cough.

you really want to be ruled by the UN?,
you really really want a body that mostly composed of third would dictorships to rule over you?

hmm sounds like you want one world goverment, sounds like the new world order.so why you fighting so hard aganist it. Give in breathe deep the goodness that is bush. errr ok so that last part was a joke.

but really who will enforce the law? Until Russia finshes rebuling there Army, there is only one country that is able to responed in a fast fashion that is the US, so once again we are worlds police, Which we dont want. Like i said, a law is only good when it can be enforced.

i wonder if we applied your thinking, and no on stopped Iran, then they used it, and millions died, what would say then?
I wonder, if I held a red pen up to you and said, `This is a red pen' would you answer with `I can't believe you don't like chocolate ice cream! What about all the people in the world who have guinea pigs?'

I did not say or even imply one, single thing you said in that post.

To get back on topic...

French Foreign Minister Softens Tone on Iran

Yes, it's a Fox News article. Why? Because CNN is more interested in the Obama Girl's new video, comedians and YouTubers mocking OJ, and a guy who got bitten by a rattlesnake he put in his own mouth. Yeah, the hard hitting news.
