I hope this is allowed, since Bishou wasn't a cat, or even a mammal...But his euthanasia has affected me as deeply as would the death of any of my cats or birds, so...I figured it would be fine.
RIP, Bishou, my steel-blue betta boy...You were so beautiful when I got you, and grew even more beautiful over time, even after you suddenly (and mysteriously) turned pink/red, assumingly from the Neon Tetra Disease.
You were sick almost the entire time I had you (9 1/2 months), but you were a fighter. Somehow, you always pulled through, until about two months ago, when you went nearly completely blind. It was heartbreaking to watch you struggle to find your food when I tried to feed you. It was even worse when you stopped even trying to find it, when you just laid at the bottom of the tank all day, rising to the top only when I tapped lightly on the glass.
It was even worse when you kept fighting, even after I had started the process for euthanasia. You fought until the very end, and for that, I am sorry. If I had known that you would have kept struggling, I'd have just let nature take it's course, rather than speed up your...death.
I love you, Bishou, and always will. Have fun with all the girly fishes under the Bridge.
RIP.
