Do you think cats can predict the weather?

I know they sense things like storms and earthquakes and such. I mean like predicting what the next season will be like.

Last winter, Trent's mane was as big as I've ever seen - and we had a BAD winter. We had snowstorms for 6 weeks in a row, 2 of them bad enough to shut down the airport and the whole city.

Now, Trent's mane is even bigger than last year, and I'm bracing for a really, really bad winter.

Do your cats predict weather or seasons? What have you noticed?

I don't think they can predict long term weather (like how bad a winter will be) but think they can sense changes in the weather that we can't - like a storm, earthquake, etc.

I'm not sure about my cats predicting anything other than their meal times
That being said however- my old dog, Ginger (she's 12 and lives with my mom) is a wolf mix. She's a storm dog and flips out on days when it rains/etc. She DEFINITELY knows when something is about to happen outside and will follow you around everywhere and has to be right beside you or she goes nuts. I definitely think she knows when something's up.

Heidi - I remember reading somewhere that animals can (this is not the right word) sense that a bad winter is coming when their fur gets thicker. I am not making sense to myself - it is kinda hard to explain. The same goes with trees - before winter, look at the bark and see how thick it is, if it is really thick, then it is going to be a cold winter. I am trying to explain this as best as I can - face to face is no problem, but in the written word, it is harder!

Maybe earthquakes, but none of my cats ever told me we were getting Hurricanes Frances, Gene and Wilma. We had to listen to the weatherman. I wish they could've predicted how long we'd be without power.
