My cat is 3 years old. He's an orange tabby. Last week or so he's been limping on an off. When he's not limping he's his regular self chasing the laser pointer at crazy speeds and jumping to the top of our cupboards which is by the ceiling by jumping on the counter then the fridge and then the top of the cupboards...but when he's limping he lays there and won't walk and when he does it's only to get to his food and it's always the same leg. Im a student so the vet is expensive for me at the moment but will bring him if I have too. but he's only limped a few times...3 to be exact in the last week and a half...anyone experience anything like this before??? he's an indoor cat never goes outside, he's slightly overweight but the vets never say he's too big when i bring him even though he his slightly over 20 lbs. He eats Iam's indoor cat food. Drinks only water. Occasional wet food once in a while for a treat. Made sure it's not the food that was on recall a while back. I'm just worried about Nizmo and kinda would like to know if this is cause for alarm or if it might be him just having a kink in his leg or something.

He sounds like he hurt his leg. Since he isn't holding it up altogether, it could just be a sprain or something minor. Have you felt the area for tenderness (really good) and if so, has he yelped at all when you move it around and feel for a tender spot? That is what the vet would do.

Also I would not use the laser light or other play things with him while his leg is sore, and I would give him cat stairs or padded mats or something in the areas where he typically jumps down from, such as the countertop, the bed, and so on. And I would make it so that the things he normally needs are lower to the ground for him, while his injury heals.

By the way, here is a REALLY good home-vet-for-cats book you might want to get, given your situation as a student. You can get a used copy inexpensively too. I love this book and it covers all possible situations with your cat. Even when you do go to the vet, there is info in this book that will tell you what is going on when your vet doesn't

yeah thanks for the help. He was fine last night and this morning too. I have been trying to keep him off the counter at all times anyways cuz it's no place for a cat. So we'll see. and I will try to find that book.
