His name is El, and he's a 5 month male tabby cat. I just brought him home and filled his litterbox, food (I got it from the adoption center), water, and his bed. Because this is my first time having a cat, I'm really confused because he's not eating anything (he's drinking though), he's running around sniffing everything, he's not using his litterbox, now I don't know what should I do.

Is he going to use his litterbox? Because this is his first time in my house and the adoption center said he's toilet trained.

Oh and could he eat human food? (e.g. tuna/salmon from safeway)

Congratulations on your new kitty.

He is probably excited and overwhelmed by his new home, and is busy checking it out. As long as he is drinking, he will be fine. He will use the litterbox eventually.
It is best to feed him cat food. Human food does not have the nutrients that a cat needs, but most of us give it as an occasional treat.
There are many others tht are more expert than me that will be along to offer their advice and insights, but let me be the first to welcome you to TCS.

Thanks

He's using his litterbox as you said (first time seeing a cat peeing!!) and I bought him Science Diet Kitten food and Fancy Feast cat food. I think I put too much coz he only eat like 2-3 pellets (sciencediet) and I had to cut the tuna into little pieces first before he eat (fancyfeast). And he ate like a very small amount compared to the can.

He also ran around, poke and sniffing everything. I'm just afraid he might accidentally eat tissue paper/plastic, but he's not that stupid, isnt he?

hi and welocme to TCS
i have two kittens myself and they love to play with paper and especially cardboard boxes as im sure others will tell you. Don't worry if he doesn't eat much yet he is adjusting to a new environment plus he probably only has a tiny tum if he's a kitten. When my little rascals came they hardly ate anything either but now they are dustbins and gobble away quite contently
I give tuna and salmon as a treat but not too often particularly tuna because it has high levels of mercury (which is why we shouldn't eat to much of it either
) Good luck with the forums and i hope to see a lot more of you

I just bought him baby food (Gerber) and he's like, ate 1/2 of the jar very quickly, maybe he was super hungry. Is it ok to give him baby food? I read articles in internet and they said it's ok..
Btw 1/2 jar is 56 g so I guess it's not too much for him

Welcome to TCS!!

Congratulations on your new kitty El.

It sounds like he is doing well by what you have described. What kind of baby food are you giving him?

It's great that you're learning all about being a kitty parent! My suggestion to you would be to post your questions in our Heath & Nutrition Forum. You will get more health-related responses there.
