What does it actually mean?
I have been with this animal welfare organization for more than 2 years, I have been appointed treasurer in one and supported events to enhance its reputation.
However, for the past months, I have become disappointed with the management and its officers. Although I was the treasurer (I resigned after one year), there was no actual financial responsibility. I was more like an unpaid bookkeeper. My suggestions were thrown out the window, my contributions were unappreciated and my advise ignored. It was like I was in charge of nothing.
It is difficult to be part of a group whose entire work is solely dictated by 1 or 2 persons. No wonder a lot of new members do not stick around!!!

Anyway, thanks for listening.

That is such a shame. Unfortunately, it seems to happen a lot in volunteer organizations. It takes an insightful person to manage volunteers well and make them feel appreciated.

It's unfourtunate that some organizations take advantage of good hearted people.

That's a shame Maria...especially when all you're trying to do is help the kitties.

There's no place like home
A very similar thing happened to me at the first organization that I volunteered for. When they invited to sit on their Board of Directors, I declined then found another group that didn't have the need to control their volunteers. It was a sad thing that the president confided in me one time that she couldn't for the life of her understand why all the good volunteers left after about a year. I tried to explain it to her, but she wouldn't listen, which is why everyone was leaving in the first place!

Keep looking and don't give up. There are better organizations out there!

Do you mind if i ask what kind of "group" you were the treasurer for?I just want to say you were not elected treasurer for no reason!! the members must have trusted you for them to elect you as treasurer.Sometimes people are elected for their veiws and some of the "old guard " are reluctant to make the changes that members/legislation want,it seems to me that you were elected for whatever reason the members saw fit and not all the trustees will agree with that but you have to stand firm and be the rep that the members voted for
You have probally found that there are a lot of "differences " in the "animal welfare charity" but what you need to know is althou there are a hell of a lot of people with an "self inflated ego the size of the moon" you must try to forget that and just remember .....the animals come first...
...do what you feel is right
