Hi Everyone,

Well my bad juujuu with sick animals has continued. I just found out that my kitty Czyna has pancreatitis. Does anyone have any experience with this disease? I do understand she needs to be on a special low fat diet which already seems to be helping. I am just curious if anyone else has faced these challenges already and can give some insight.

Thanks in advance,
ulualoha

I was searching for information about pancreatitis last night (my cat may have that or FIP or both), and I found this great site:

http://www.harpsie.com/pancreatitis.htm

It has both lots of information and personal accounts from Harpsie's human. What are your kitty's symptoms, and how did the vet come to the diagnosis?

I appreciate your response! Thank you for the website as well! Czyna has always been a "yackmeister" but over the past couple years it has gotten worse. I was told it was probably a tumor but after an ultrasound, they did not see anything out of the ordinary.

Over the past couple months, she started yacking so much, it was hard to believe so much could come out of such a small animal and that was my final straw. I took her back in for some xrays and more blood work. Her previous blood panels all came back normal so this time the doctor suggested a pancreatitis blood test. I agreed to do it and today the results came back and they were positive. I was told to keep her on a low fat diet and so far, so good. I am a bit nervous though as in the little research I was able to do so far, pancreatitis can have impacts to other organs in the body which worries me sick. Right now since she is not yacking, we are just going to keep her on the low fat diet and hope it keeps things in check. I will think good thoughts for your baby...our brood is sending you purrs and snuggles.

Thanks again...

Is she on any medication for the vomiting? If not and the vomiting continues, I'd ask the vet about Reglan or similar drugs. I'm glad the change in diet seems to be working for her. Thanks for the vibes for my baby--she's still working on recovering from the feeding tube surgery Tuesday afternoon.

Also, is she drinking enough? All the sites I read mentioned possible fluid therapy as a supportive method to get her through the inflammation.

Hi cloud_shade,

Unfortunately Czyna is very allergic to Reglan. The vet had little in the way of alternatives to offer her so hopefully she won't go back that direction again with this new food. So far so good. As far as drinking is concerned, I haven't really noticed either way if she's drinking well or not. She's a very bad patient, so hopefully I won't discover she's not drinking enough. That would be bad. It took both the doctor and a tech to hold her still just so the vet could look at her. So here's to hoping.

I will keep the good vibes coming your way....having been through the whole surgery path, I know how stressful and heartwrenching it is. You and your baby are in my heart and prayers. Thank you for being so sweet. If you need an ear to listen, I am here for you.

Hugs,
