Well, the more moderated ones I am on at least, the political ones have free for all type chat rooms with a 'if you can't handle it, just leave' type warning, but I don't think TCS wants to go that route

Well for us people who actually ARE interested, it is a pity that most don't really care

I totally understand why Anne isn't interested in having a chat room here. The mods have enough on their hands the way it is, I don't think it would be far to add that to their load.

Anyways, if ya'll are so interesting in a chat room, why not share your Yahoo Instant Messenger/MSN IDs with some people you'd like to chat with via PM/email & talk that way, off of TCS? You can get to know other members quite well & chat that way.

I dont think this thread going past 3 pages is going to get Anne, or anyone else to change their mind about a chat room, especially since she's already expressed her feelings about it. I think we should all be kind enough to accept that. After all, it is HER site!

I think a chat room here would get out of control FAST!
There are so many members that a chat would move so quickly and be hard to follow.

Conference pms can be set up so that many people are in one room. I'd be willing to pm to get one started if everyone wants to do it that way. It would have to be Yahoo because I do not do MSN.

My nic on yahoo is the same here.
I'll start another thread about it and see if there's enough interest

Sorry for chiming in late, it's the Holiday Eve here and I've been out and about.

The reasons for why we don't have a chat room have been covered in this thread. Server loads are the main issue with certain types of chat rooms, with others it's just moderation issues. We are committed to a level of moderation here that not many forums share - some like it, some don't, I feel each community has it's own distinct character and ours is just what it is.

I could look at the shoutbox hack again, and see if that can be implemented. If we do ever go that route, it's going to be limited to certain groups of users, for sure. Either way, I need to look into compatibility issues with our current software and hacks, as well as server loads and other issues first.

I do have a quick fix though, for those of you wanting a chat room... Just please understand that this service is not part of TCS and we're not affiliated with it in any form.

If you type into your browser http://www.gabbly.com/thecatsite.com/forums
You should get the forums, along with a little chat box at the upper right corner of the page. If others are doing the same as you are, then you see them there as well. Does that make sense? Just try it and remember to have pop-ups enabled. If more than one of you tries it at the same time, you should see each other in the chat room there.

Again, this is a service by Gabbly.com and can be implemented on any URL on the web - nothing to do with TCS and we are not liable for anything that goes in that chat room

Based on my limited experience with chat rooms, I think they are cliquish. It feels like intruding on a conversation when you go in and others are having a conversation. A note comes up so and so has entered the room. I guess I am just too old, but it seemed really stupid to me.
