Some time ago I did read a book written by a swedish woman living in France, in Paris.
She did worked much with homeless cats there, mainly a colony in a big park (non feral as I understand).
Cooperating with a friendly vet, and several other volunteers.

She did wrote more then once about "her" cats disappearing. Usually the most human-friendly = non shy, and the prettiest.
She wrote about that as matter of fact as taken by evil people killing them.

Although she didnt gives proofs, or says she saw such thing, or retelling others witnessing. I did never get clear if she didnt wanted to tell horrible details, or if she actually didnt knew for sure and took the worse possible scenario for granted...
She only writes deep sadly about this as a matter of fact. Something a volunteer must live with.

Now. Im thinking. The same cats would also be natural candidates for (spontaneus) adoptions by friendly people.
But. I know such infamy exist, and isnt unusual....Not always only youngsters doing such.

So. What do you say, you who are experienced rescuers. What do you think?

Were most of these really murdered by evil people
, or were most of these spontaneus adopted?

The prettiest cats would probably be more likely to be adopted. Friendly, but generic-looking cats... would be the most easily grabbable by somebody with a cruel nature.

More likely than taking cats to kill them would be taking cats to sell them to research labs.

There are people who deliberately kill cats specifically for fun (rather than, for example, shooting them with shotguns, poisoning them, or trapping/euthanizing them, to decrease the population). But such cruelty is not so very common as the type of cruelty that is just incidental because the cats are annoying somebody...

I think there are more people who would take a cat to adopt it, than people who would take it and kill it.

Cruelty for cruelty's sake is less common than cruelty for convenience's sake, when it comes to ferals.

It would be difficult to know...some cats after they are spayed/neutered do "disappear" for a period of time...but sometimes they come back. Also, it isn't a far fetched idea that someone who liked the look of one of her cats would take it home. Let's at least hope that that is what is happening.
