Yesterday we went to Skyline (local chili restaurant) and I got a garden salad. They put it in the bottom of the bag under all of the warm stuff. When we got it back, it felt a little warm. I put the dressing on it and stuck it in the refrigerator... and then forgot about it. Think it's ok to eat today? The fact that it was so warm bothers me a little. What do you all think? I tend to worry about my food after I got food poisoning twice last year.

If there wasn't any meat or eggs in the salad it should be fine. It may be a little wilted from the heat, but fresh veggies are ok being out in the heat. They grow outside in the heat so that shouldn't hurt them. You may want to soak the salad in ice water to get it moisturized again. Not for safety but for taste.

I agree. It may have lost some of its appeal, but I don't think it will have suffered in terms of safety.

They probably put it in the bottom because heat rises. Sure, it may be wilted and not so tasty today but I'm sure it's safe to eat.

I think it would be fine. A little heat should hurt anything, esp. if it was just for a little while.

Thanks for all the replies. I came up to get it from the refrigerator and someone else had eaten it already. Oh well.

I've had food poisioning twice....so i'm always careful about stuff like that. My rule of thumb is definitely "when in doubt, toss it out"
