My 5 year old female cat has hissed at my fiancee's son for 4 years now. He stayed with us every other weekend. Why is she still doing this? Shouldn't she have gotten used to him by now. He is not mean to her or anything. In fact, he tried to play with her and she just hisses at him something awful. She is also hissing at the 8 old kittens we have. She's hissed at them since I got them, when they were 3 weeks old. She sometimes plays with them, but still she hisses all the while. I'd appreciate some feed back on this problem and would love to hear if any one else experiences this with their cats. She is spayed and the two males are neutered, so I don't think it's hormonal. Thanks for any advice. E-mails and IM's are welcome. [email protected] Also, I'd like to post a picture of my three cats and am having trouble doing so. Can someone assist me in that too?

If you are still having trouble posting the pictures of your cats, email them to me at [email protected] and I will be happy to post them for you.

Maybe your fiancee's son has a cat or dog at home and he is bringing the smell with him and your cat doesnt like it?

My fiancee's son does have both a cat and a dog. I thought of this, and had his son bath at our place with our soaps and shampoos and I also washed his clothes. To no avail. Thank you so much for replying though. I just joined up on the 10th of Jan., and I haven't quite figured this site out yet. I did send the pics to Anne. Thank you for your assistance.

Have your fiance's son start feeding your cat whenever he is visiting. And, have him give her a few treats during other parts of the day. Have him get her favorite play toys and try to play with her without forcing himself into her space. And....you should not feed or play with her while he is around. This way she will learn to associate the boy with good things (playing, food, and treats).

Even though he bathes and wears clean clothes at your house, when he first walks in the door he smells like other animals, so she immediately interprets him as an intruder. She is no dummy, so she knows that even after he showers and changes clothes he is still that guy who smells like other critters!

By the way,...I prefer to answer in the forum rather than e-mailing or IMing so that others can learn from the postings and so that all members can exchange ideas and comment on what we are recommending and sharing.

Gotcha. I'll give your suggestions a try. I'll let you know if it helps. I'll try to remember to send the messages here and not to the email. K? Thanks for the help. Take care.

Maybe she's just one of those cats that's particular about who she allows to touch her, etc. I have a friend that has an Abysinian who only allows 2 people to touch him and hisses at everyone else if they try.

Just a thought.

Just a thought.
You may be right. She had a rough start in life, what with being dumped in a dumpster at 3 weeks of age. I guess that would tend to make anyone a bit hissyfied. I appreciate your thought on the subject.
