I went to the pet store last week to get snake food. I always get the really nasty ones because I want the nice ones to go to good homes. The pet store guy told me that the one he gave me was really nasty, and that it had already bit him twice. I took it home, but when I took it out of the box, it just sat there in my hand and let me pet it. There was no way I was going to be able to feed it to Katiana. My hubby told me that he wanted to keep it. We've named it Loki (I think its a she). Its the nicest little guy in the world. Its grey with little white paws.
I had to go out the next day to get more food for the snake, lol. Thats the first time that's ever happened.

How come you don't feed it mice? Mice have got to be cheaper than gerbils...

Gerbils are social animals. Please read up on them & conside a companion gerbil. I had two boys, lost one, & just rescued another. Do read up on Gerbil intros, though. Two strange gerbils introduced will kill each other.

I fed gerbils because my snake wouldn't touch mice, gerbils more closely resembled natural prey, but I also fed only prekilled as it's much safer.

I feed her gerbils and hamsters because yes, they do more closely resemble their natural prey, and they are also healthier. I also feed pre-killed.
I'm thinking about getting her a companion whenever I can afford a larger cage.

Here are some pictures of her

She's gorgeous

I'm confused though, you say you feed pre-killed yet you bought her to feed to your snake? :S

You can't buy pre-killed rodents. You have to buy them live, then feed them pre-killed. Feeding live is dangerous and I find cruel (but thats just my opinion)

But think of it this way - the snake in the wild kills and eats live prey all the time - its not cruel IMO. No more crueller then letting a cat catch and kill a live mouse!

true, but I just feel like I'm being cruel when I watch the snake crush the poor thing. I find it better if i do it myself. Then its quick, and there's no risk of any bites.
