How low have we sunk? I don't know if anyone else has heard of this but apparently, Fox TV is making a new "reality" show called Kid Army. The premise of the show is the same as Survivor but instead of adults, it's kids and instead of having nothing, they have semi-automatic weapons and tanks at their disposal. I don't see how this is possible but according to Fox, it will be happening this January.

Here's the link to the story: http://bbspot.com/News/2007/09/fox-u...-kid-army.html

Drewson would not reveal what the mission for the kids would be, but hinted it might involve "an invasion of a central Asian nation."

Parents eager to see their children on television signed waivers clearing Fox of any liability in the injury or death of their children.
Wait... what? This is so incredibly weird.. they can't be serious, can they? Kids throwing grenades at each other in the South Pacific? What kind of moron would let their kid do that, especially if the weapons are real (they are, aren't they?).

It is rumored that NBC plans to start filming its own kid-based reality show named "Teenage Torture Tryouts."
I don't know whether to laugh or cry about that. Gee, getting tortured on TV! What a great idea.. I should sign up!

It sounds like they are real weapons but I don't see how any company could put that on TV. I'm sure there has to be a law against it or something, right?

Kid Nation
Kid Army

Whats next, Kid Porno? Seriously, It seems we're getting close to it.

and, There allowed to take there kids out of school to send them to this instead of an education, I personally think School is worthless peice of junk to me because I Self Taught myself alot, but, To take young kids out of school to go to a unethical TV Show instead of getting educated is sickening.

All I know is what the article said--they're filming in the South Pacific because in the US kids can't shoot high-powered guns and all that fun stuff.

Huh. I just went on Google to find out more about the show but there's virtually nothing about it. I don't really know whether to believe this, either. I mean, it's just so absurd that I can't even wrap my head around it.

Yeah I can't find anything else on it either but if it is legitimate, we should start to hear more about it soon. If it's true we should start to hear a lot about it by the beginning of November I'm guessing.

There was a movie banned in the US called "Battle Royale", but I'm sure many of us and people in other countries have seen it... these shows remind me of that and Lord of The Flies. Neither end well.

Used to be, social experiments like this would be considered cruel. If these were psych experiments, the ethics board would put the kiebash on them so fast. Somehow it's okay if it's for a profit?

Also, WHAT KIND OF PARENTS let their children on these shows?

You can read the release waiver for Kid Nation on the smoking gun website, and there's no way you could get me to send my kid on a show like that or anything else that requires those kinds of releases. For 5000$ or any other amount.

Crazy ones.

Here's the waiver from the Smoking Gun for those interested.

Awww, Tiger, tell me it ain't so! Even FOX can't go THAT low, can they? (Uh, can I say that? If not, sorry! just consider that whatever you're thinking, I'm probably thinking, too...!)

Sorry but it appears to be true. I wish it weren't but it probably is. I still can't understand how this is legal. I understand that the parents have all signed release waivers and all that but if they go through with this I guarantee that at least half of the kids on the show will get killed. What could the parents possibly be thinking? "Oh sure if you give me a couple thousand dollars I'll let you send my kid into almost certain death."

Over the river and through the woods...
I'm REALLY hoping they'll be shooting high powered paint pellets and not real bullets. That may be a possibility, but I'm not holding my breath. I don't find TV entertaining at all anymore. I really can't stand reality shows, and this one is just sick!

I'm thinking more like rubber pellets. If they used live ammunition, every executive at Fox would probably end up in jail but it sounds like it could be real bullets. This show is, as you said, just sick and IMO it should not be allowed to be done. There are a few people who I think must be insane to come up with/endorse this new sick fad: First, the person who thought of the idea for the show needs some help. He/she can't be sane. Second, the people at Fox who think it's a good idea clearly know nothing about what people want. And third, the parents. They are clearly irresponsible and should not be allowed to have children in their care.

Lol, I thought you guys were talking about Kid Nation... this story is pretty obviously a hoax.

Sadly almost believable.

Has anyone ever read Stephen King's novellas "The Running Man" and "The Long Walk?" They were written at least 20 years ago, and they were absolutely prophetic -- all about the exploitation of the poverty-stricken, including children, for profit in horrific televised survival contests.

Whether this story about Fox is a hoax or not, I have no doubt that we're headed for just such abominations soon -- if not in this country, then in some other place where the veneer of civilization is even thinner.

If there's a nickel to be made on it, somebody somewhere will do it... no matter how monstrous it may be.

The website this article is on (which, incidentally, no mention of this is to be found anywhere else) also features stories like "Yoko Ono Blamed for iTunes Beatles Breakup" and links to the Onion. And a picture of a dinosaur holding a beachball.

Seriously, it's not real.
