The kittens are now 3 weeks and 1 day old and I was wondering when they can come in and out of the box as they please?

When my cat had kittens I had an opening in the front of the box and when they kittens were old enough(I think around 3-4 weeks) they started coming out to explore and would go back in when they got tired or hungry.

Anyways, I was wondering when I could cut an opening in the box so my kittens could come and go as they please? They are always trying to escape(little buggers!) and the white kitten actually DID the other day, lol.

If you are talking about running around the entire house, I would not let them out without supervision till a lot older. I'd still keep them confined to one room at this age. Gradually let them explore when 8-12 weeks old to get used to household things/noices, etc. before you place them.

Oh no! Not the whole house, I'd lose them! lol.

I would let them out in my room. At night I would close the "door" in their box, but during the day I was going to leave it open so they could come out and explore when they are awake.

I didn't keep my babies in an enclosed box, but thats because they have a mum and she needs to get back in without trampling them. I bought them a large cat bed last week, and on Monday (2wks 3days old) they started getting out and going back in on their own.

The kittens are 3 weeks today and roam around part of my bedroom alot, (only 2sq meters worth of the room though) I keep the door closed most of the time so they can't get to the rest of the house. But in about a week I intend to bring them in the living room for an hour at a time to get them used to the rest of the house.

That's ok then, as long as you check EVERYTHING in the room (get on the floor at more eye level) and see what they could get under and get stuck, small buttons, toys they might choke on, etc. As long as mom is not allowed to get out of the room too so she doesn't change places, you should be ok
