The shelter told me how old Taz is but I really couldn't believe it. He's so small. Perhaps part of it is how skinny he is. I can feel every bone in his body. He's been making up for it by eating all of Puffs food! He really loves the Chicken soup food. (The shelter feeds a hodge podge of supermarket brands).

I just would like to know what y'alls opinions are on his age?

His pics are here.

OMG the first and 3rd pics are adorable!!!! Look how sweet Puff is accepting Taz ...... I
Puff ...... hes really an easy going boy ....... are you going to keep Taz? ....... Has Kota accepted him like Puff did? I bet she did, shes a good girl, too.

Ok I asked a bunch of questions and now I have to say I have no idea how old he could be.

How old did they say he was? and how much does he weigh?

Lack of or poor food can stunt animals growth, and some cats just don't get as big as others.
His face is starting to fill out, so I'd say maybe no younger than 7 months but up to a year.

He is a little on the small side but then he may be older then you think. My Linus is very small as well and he is at least 18 months old. Taz is about the same size as him.
Linus was very skinny when I brought him home and had very little muscle tone. He had been confined to a cage for most of his stay at the shelter which was almost a year. Once he came home he filled out and built up muscle but he never grew any larger.
Taz may have a similar body style.
He looks like a very happy kitty though.

Kota accepted Taz immediately. She loves cats. Before we moved there was a stray she played with a lot so she's use to them wanting to play with her. Puff won't but she's hoping Taz will.

Puff on the other hand took a couple of days to accept him. But now he's his big buddy. They've been sleeping together all day and just a minute ago they were playing with a toy on the cat tree. Taz was at the top swinging it for Puff below..lol.

As far as keeping him no. He is a foster and I really am not looking to add to the population at this time. I will keep him for an extended stay...because I can't see any kitty euthanized because of no home.

I agreed for 3 months stay..but will keep him longer as a foster. I look at it this way. If I keep him, I won't be able to take in another foster. Hopefully he finds a home and I can continue helping other homeless kitties.

Our shelter has a really hard time adopting cats. Since opening their remote site at the pet store the number of adoptions have gone up. But not by much. I've been posting him on every forum I belong to. If y'all have any other suggestions on how I can help find his forever home please let me know!

He's a sweetheart! I would need to see his teeth to make a guess on his age. I thought our Pru was a year old or less because she was so small, and found out she was around 5 years old. The vet explained the teeth condition gives the best clue to their age.
I hope you can find him a home.

I really need to see his teeth to try and give you an accurate guess at his age. Any way he'd let you take a dental pictures? (one of the most accurate ways to gauge age is by looking at the teeth- if any are missing- baby or adult, any signs of decay or tartar and how progressed it is, etc.)

I'd have to concur,, Less then a year,, or maybe right at a year.

I got my girls right at 9 months, and they were that small.. So i'd say around there... and they were super skinny..

Angel is still really skinny but Chessy is a pig!!

Well the teeth look pretty "adult" looking to me, but what do I know - Charlie seemed to have baby teeth at 8 months old

There are baby teeth in there along with his adult fangs.
He's around 4-6 months.

Ziggy is about that size. In the picture of Taz and Puff, that is the size comparison between Ziggy and the cats she socialises with outdoors.

She is fully grown. Shes just a small cat
