paw pad

I have a cat who has been limping for one day. Tulip.

I got him down and looked at his front foot and the pads on one front foot are swollen. Down inside the interior of the pads it is red and sore looking. This foot is also peeling. I got the fingernail clippers and clipped the excess skin off.

I have coated his foot with neosporin. He is not sick. He has no fever and his leg is not swollen. I see no bites on him like maybe a spider or a snake.

This is not a dry cracked pad. His little pads are soft and plyable. Just swollen and red on one foot. The main big pad along the interior edges in the middle of the foot nearly look white. It looks like maybe it was ripped back. But I'm not sure. But's its sore.

Any ideas????

Still sounds like a bite or an abcess of some sort. I would def. take him in to the vet asap.

Ditto that ... The neosporin is a good idea, did you bandage it so it cant be licked off

I tried to bandage it yesterday but he took it off instantly. I had used papertape and sterile gauze with some wrapping. I thought it was secure but evidently not.

Today it looks better..... I am now wondering if when he hurt originally hurt it -- with constant licking -- chaffed it and made it worse.

But a major portion of the swelling is gone today... Plus the redness is gone some. I think all the doses of antibiotic ointment helped him yesterday. I know he licked some off but I rubbed most in throughly.

I just finished laying him on his back and using a qtip I cleaned and swabbed it real well going inbetween all his little pads over and over...This cleaned it and doctored it at the same time. I'm waiting before I go to the vet since it is much improved.. Today I could also see a little scratch on it. So that is probably the origin of the wound... I just don't know how he did it.

It just looked so horrible yesterday.
