I think that there are definetely far to many animals in that apartment for the size of it. But at the same time it does look extremely clean. The kitties all looked healthy, and they are being well cared for. It's certainly far better than the life those kitties would have had on the streets. I do think she would be better off if she turned her operation into a non-profit rescue center. That way people could help her out by giving her donations. And the animals that are adoptable would be able to be adopted out. It would help reduce the number in that small apartment. She's a kind lady, and I think she means well, she just needs to start adopting some of them out so that she doesn't get overwhelmed.

I haven't seen the video, but if none of the females are spayed, their health is at risk from pyo and cancer, I wonder if she would be able to spot the signs in time? Plus the spraying that can come in with it

True! I've seen some truly mentally imbalance people in my lifetime, and it's not a pretty sight!
At least her heart is in the right place, anyways....

I suppose some people would consider me mentally imbalanced, back when I had 7 cats!
I've been called the "crazy cat lady" on more than one occasion!

I'd say that was a bit of a set up for the cameras - where are the litter trays? There are bound to be problems with that many cats living in such close proximity to each other. They're not all going to get on. And with half of them being unspayed females can you imagine the noise? Even if the males are neutered I'd imagine some will attempt to mount the females or will fight with other males. Note how the neigbhour says something to the effect of the smell not being too bad - that implies there is some smell. And if a neighbour can smell anything it must be awful inside. I appreciate her intentions are good and that conditions are tough for cats outdoors over there in cold winters, but I don't think that she's giving them any quality of life. She'd be better off concentrating on just a few cats and giving them a decent quality of life. Hard not to take in others but she's going to have to stop taking them in some time.

Well, You have to look at it like this.

They could live a nice better life with a better Meaowmy somewhere else, But Lets Remember, She brought these cats in from outside, So.... I belive she should start a adoption agency and get rid of them down to a maximum of 10.

Pros
___
- They wont freeze to death
- They will get food
- They will get loved (Maybe as not as a personal Meowmy but its better than being alone on the street)

Cons
_____
- Cats need to be loved (Yes, But on the street is not loved)
- It could become dangerous to there health (True, But its still worse outside)
-They need more room ( Food, Shelter, Warmth Vs Room?)

Think about it, If shes just hoarding them because shes nuts and not willing to give them up than
TAKE THEM AWAY FROM HER! but, If shes taking care of them, and is willing to depart from them to give them a meowmy its not as bad as you think.

Does it really matter to the cats why they're being hoarded? That saying about the road to Hell being paved with good intentions is one I refer to frequently.

I can certainly sympathize with all the hoarders of the world (who doesn't want to save them all?). However, after spending time cleaning up after them and assisting in the euthanasia of the animals they've allowed to suffer in some misguided attempt to "save" them, I don't really care why someone is hoarding. Hoarding is hoarding.

You'd rather have them living on the street, Dying, Cold, with no fellow cats or food or anything?

If you we're a cat, Would want a warm shelter with food or the cold sidewalk at 2:00 AM

One of my nephews told me about the "crazy cat lady in Moscow", but when I saw the video, what struck me was how clean the apartment was, and how healthy the cats looked.

I thought the place looked really clean, and there were tons of litter boxes, although, probably not as many as she needs, but, if she's walking around cleaning them all day..

I mean, when you go to the zoo, or into a stable, there is some smell associated with animals. It doesn't necessarily mean that they're not being taken care of, or that the pens aren't as absolutely clean as they can be... sometimes there's just a smell to animals. Now, that being said, my kitties have some smell to them, although it's not because of their litter boxes or anything, they just smell like warm soft fuzzy furry critters... it makes sense that if you have 100 of them the smell would be 100 times stronger.

I'm pretty sure that if the house were reeking of urine and feces, the comment wouldn't have been "it doesn't smell too bad". And, there was an opening where the cats were looking outside, so the smell is not contained and so bad that it's forcing it's way outside.

There's certainly a huge difference between this case of "hoarding" and the case of "hoarding" where they found 21 animal bodies in the garage and 6 inches of feces in the mansion...
